The Easterlings were a breed of Men who roamed the wilds of Rhûn, beyond the confines of Mordor and the Sea of Rhûn. These fierce warriors were ever the enemies of the Free Peoples, serving as staunch allies of Morgoth during the First Age and later becoming zealous vassals of Sauron throughout the Second and Third Ages.
Khamûl, a mighty king among the Easterlings, was gifted with one of the Nine Rings of Power and soon became a master of dark sorcery. However, the corrupting influence of Sauron's One Ring transformed Khamûl into a wraith, forever bound to the service of the Dark Lord.
When the War of the Ring erupted, the Easterlings allied with Mordor, participating in the brutal battles of the north that nearly broke the Men of Dale and the Dwarves of Lonely Mountain.
Though ultimately defeated in the war, some Easterlings continued to pose a threat in the early days of the Fourth Age. It was only through the valiant efforts of King Elessar and his campaigns that the last of these rogue warriors were finally brought to heel.
