After watching haulover videos, this is a welcome treat. These guys know what they're doing.

Skills my friends. 80 ft vessel with an unskilled sailor could end up in a submerged vessel in these conditions. Knowledge the seas will keep you alive no matter what size boat you are navigating. Huge respect for that sailor!

It's cool to watch serious people focused on a difficult and dangerous job, working together without panicking and trusting each other. You can tell from their body language they're really focused on what's happening.

They did just fine. Most could not have done it any better. These men have done this many times before. Great job!

This is actually how you cross a bar! You wait and read the waves. Then you go when it's calmed down.

Well done just proves it's not speed an power to cross a bar but read the waves an being in the right place

Nicely done I don't care what anyone says that takes skill reading those waves like that. Most of these people with negative comments prolly never seen this kinda situation first hand let alone been in it

Not his first rodeo obviously, good job.

You'll spend longer sitting at traffic lights on an average car journey and how much skill does that take? These guys did a great job!

Quite possibly the first BP Rescue IRB that has actually showed a good piece of boat handling. Best way to cross a bar observe, analyse, observe again looking for repetition in the wave patterns then act accordingly.

Good sensible boat handling skills.  Makes a nice change from the "just power through it and hope" shown in so many videos.

Just in case anyone is interested, that is a Arancia inshore lifeboat or IRB. They are incredibly capable soft hulled boats that are specifically designed for surf.

To crew one of these you need to be a qualified beach lifeguard, and hold crew and coxswain quals and renew them bi annually.

The fact that they are even sat in that boat meant that they knew exactly what they were doing.

There are times that being on are bar is terrifying. The driver did the right thing.

Patience is the key and of course skill

Wait for a break in the sets and go through a little white water, works like a charm. Ride back in on the back side of a wave. Whats really scary in a boat that size is cross seas.

Nicely done. I'm on the Bristol channel and the sea tells you what you can and can't do.
