The group soon heads to the roof of the pyramid and recovers the rings as Robotnik arrives in an advanced attack hovercraft powered by the quill. In response, Sonic fights off Robotnik's drones and uses one of his rings to send Tom and Maddie back to Green Hills to protect them, but Robotnik uses the quill's power to match Sonic's speed. Sonic engages Robotnik in chase battle across the world, before Robotnik knocked Sonic unconscious back in Green Hills, but Tom and the townsfolk intervene, and Tom says that Sonic is his friend, causing Sonic to regain his strength. With Tom's help, Sonic overpowers and defeats Robotnik by banishing him into a portal to the mushroom planet with his powerful spin attack.

They actually did this movie right and were (mostly) faithful to the game series.
They almost messed up with Sonic’s original character design. Fortunately, they listened to the fans and redesigned him.
