Lyrics:

Oh, Grey Warden,
What have you done?
The oath you have taken
Is all but broken.

All is undone.
Demons have come
To destroy this peace
We have had for so long.

Ally or Foe?
Maker only knows.
Ally or Foe?
The Maker only knows.

The stronghold lives on,
And the army's reborn,
Compelled to forge on.
What will we become?

Can you be forgiven
When the cold grave has come?

Or will you have won
Or will battle rage on?

Oh, Grey Warden,
What have you done?
The oath you have taken
Is all but broken.

All is undone.
Ash in the sun,
Cast into Darkness
The light we had won.

"In War, Victory. In Peace, Vigilance. In Death, Sacrifice." Grey Warden Motto

I imagined my warden travels and stopes by a tavern and here's this song. He would have been heart broken.

If the Hero of Fereldan had stepped in and stopped the grey wardens, i wouldve shit my knickers.

here's the thing: i get it. this song isnt showing how ungrateful people are for what the wardens have done; it's fear. because now when a new threat emerges, they're nowhere to be seen. the few fringe groups that are encountered have been corrupted. in the peoples eyes, the true grey wardens are absent. they wonder if they've been abandoned, or betrayed, and i think that's a pretty reasonable response considering what they know.

I can't escape the image of a warden standing upon the walls of Adamant. To see that massive army before the walls and know they are here to fight you. The warden may have felt angry. They were being betrayed by those they had sworn to protect and by people Wardens had died defending. They may have felt doubt. Were they really doing the right thing if these people had come to fight them.

The bard just had to sing this song RIGHT AFTER BLACKWALL DID YOU KNOW WHAT...

This song is heartbreaking to me. Clarel really messed up and nearly took down the Wardens with her. They thought they were doing the right thing but they never stopped to think about what they were doing. Let's hope the HoF and her friends (Nathaniel, Oghren, etc) comes back to play clean-up and restore the Grey Warden's honor. The mistake of 1 Orlesian Commander of the Grey shouldn't throw away 1, 000 years of stellar service to Thedas. The order survived Soldier's Peak, they'll survive this.

Clarel: in war, victory. In peace, vigilance...
Clarel: *sacrifices herself to save the Inquisitor*
Me: *so much chills*

"Cast into Darkness
The light we had won."

I wonder if this is referring to the Hero of Ferelden defeating Urthemiel a few years ago. The Wardens brought hope to the people back then. They won the light. But now this light was casted into darkness again.

If my Cousland would have seen what became of the very people she tried to protect and even now tries to cure from the Calling, I think she would have some tears in her eyes.

We put Bioware instead of Grey Warden and the song fits perfectly.

It's kinda sad remembering how the once mighty Bioware has fallen.

So long origins kept me dreaming after all i lived with it .. Inquisition really touched me.. What have they become? What the world is doing? People of thedas.. once .. you were united. And now we need an inquisition to hold things together.. ;(

The lyrics are very meaningful. The wardens' fall in Inquisition is one of the saddest part in the lore, when I returned to the tavern after completing the fade quest (I chose Stroud to die), this song plays, and oh my gad the feels.

It seems like everyone wants to sht on the Grey Wardens, even Bioware. But they're there to freaking help. Sure, they messed up, but literally who hasn't in this game?

Bard Maryden plays this while my Lavellan lies face down on the tavern floor, drunk, crying, waiting for Josephine to get Blackwall out of the Val Royeaux prison because WHY BIOWARE
