Biggest advantage over the years of a 2 stroke was the weight.

With modern day bikes that’s not the case anymore.

It doesn't have to be a competition. They both have advantages. Two strokes are fun as hell to ride, lighter, easier to ride tight technical trails, and tuned properly great for top end power for drag racing. Four strokes make torque for motocross or hill climbing, easier to manage power, and easier to mod and tune (fuel injection of course). In my opinion the four stroke was king already, long ago. That doesn't mean I don't love 2 smokes tho.
