Yogic Philosophy: Nature of the Mind
The mind is like a projector that creates its own reality.
The practice is really about bringing the mind into one-pointed stillness.
A mind that is not trained is one that is scattered, not able to focus on one point.
The mind has many different aspects to it, there are multiple components or facets to the mind all acting to project their own identity and reality.
The mind is always trying to move into the future or the past.

Stages of the Mind’s development
1st stage: (Shipta); Distracted - constantly reacting to things around them. If someone does something not agreeable to them they react disagreeably back. Marked by intense emotions. Difficulty being present.
2nd stage: (Bunda) Depressed/Dull - lacking passion, purpose, drive to create something in life. We start to notice how things outside of us affect us in certain ways but still don’t understand or realize our potential to take charge of the reality we are confronted with. Marked by lethargy.
3rd stage: (Vikshipta) Restless - constantly moving from one thought to the next, unable to find groundedness. There is some control over the mind, there is goal setting, an inclination and desire to become a better version of who we are, but it is limited in capacity because of the lack of sustained focus. After 30 minutes (or however long) of whatever work, it would take a lot of effort to bring the mind back to focus.
4th stage: (Eka grata) One-pointedness - full potential is revealing itself at this stage. Much more efficient. It is difficult for the mind to get distracted and is able to manifest its will much more powerfully. Distractions don’t really arise. It is quite an advanced stage. Successful people are often at this stage. Focus can be maintained for hours on end with little to no difficulty.
5th stage: (Niruddha) Released - most advanced stage. Meditative. Thoughts can be conjured and released at will. A sense of not-self is ingrained in one’s perception with passing phenomena.

That fake hair looks ridiculous. You should look at the camera like you are talking to us. Looking aside seems like you are talking to a wall. If I was face to face talking with you, would you like me to speak to you while looking in another direction instead of looking at you?
