Scouting for Tennis Talent in Eastern Attica | Marathon

Показать описание
Tennis has seen increasing popularity in Greece over the past few decades, and the wider Marathon area seems to be a haven for professional athletes, conditioned players, and curious amateurs alike. For those willing to learn from the best, Marathon Tennis Club is a living tradition created by three generations of professional, award-winning players of the Panagopoulos family.
Stavros Panagopoulos' course as a sportsman began in 1952, when he started practising with the Greek Tennis Club; by 1960, he had already become a champion and a coach. When he first relocated to Marathon in 1970, he realised there were no tennis courts in the entire region of Eastern Attica for his children to practise, and decided to take matters in his own hands. Since then, he has managed to create his own club now comprising no fewer than eleven courts which stands out as a nursery for budding talent in the region. The club is open to both adults and children, and the premises are complete with modern facilities to accommodate a family day out, including a restaurant, a café, and even a small shop in case of a sudden craving for practice away from one's home and equipment.
