Ha you beat me to it! Got a box of old firsts I’m going through for a video. Great minds think alike! Love the video man. It’s great to look back and show others to inspire them.

It has to be satisfying to see how far you have come in the past five years. Thanks for sharing this Dennis..

I really appreciated this video. You're one of the guys I look up to, and it's nice to be reminded that you didn't just magically start off as a master smith. Thanks for sharing! 🔥

I like this knife, many new knife makers would be very proud to make that. Being embarrassed of accomplishments along the way diminishes how proud you were of yourself at that point in time to make and present that to a good friend. Practice makes progress. thanks for sharing, love the channel and all your content you share with the community.

No need to be embarrassed. There is always room for improvement no matter what stage in a craft you are. I carry everyday my first knife a true reminder of how much better I can be at everything I do. I just got a tire power hammer and I am sure there is going to be a lot of learn'en happening. Thanks for sharing and the crtique.

You should definitely remake the knife with the same materials only do it as you would today. That’s a video I would love to see! Thanks Denis!

Thanks for your critique, and willingness to do so. I keep my first one on a bookcase in my bedroom so if my ego gets enlarged it can instantly be deflated. At least yours didn't have a crack running through both sides of the spine!

What I think would be cool and fun to watch would be a series on recreating some of the LOTR swords. Sting, Narsil, the ranger sword, etc. I would love to see them recreated by a master smith such as yourself.

Thank you, it is very inspiring to see the progress you've made. Gotta make them several hundred knives)

As a brand new bladesmith, I am in zero position to critique. My first real knife was a KBar I made for my Marine son-in-law, and of course I hade to make a sheath for it. Both were things I’d never done before. Somehow, it all came out better than I expected, and though there are a lot of details I cringe about, my SIL really likes it because it was all hand made which in his mind, made it much more valuable.

Kudos to you for doing that. Like you said, we hate to see our screw ups. Most of my early knives were shipped back home to family, who of course said they’re amazing 😂. My son has a few of my other attempts. Considering what you had and the level you were at, it looks a lot better than others I’ve seen for sale. Just look how far you’ve come in a few years!

Would be cool to see you remake this blade to show how far you have progressed.

Nobody starts at the top. I kept my first knife so that from time to time when I feel like I'm not gaining I can compare it to my latest knife. Thanks for sharing.

Kinda mates me feel normal in the knife making world! The only difference is I have about half a dozen like yours which I gave away as freebies but kept my first just to remind me that n how I have progressed in my skills
Thanks for sharing 👍

Seems like a lot of the issues could be fixed with a bit of sanding/etching/filing, maybe you can fix it up for him before you give it back?

Dennis. You could get a mini-series out of remaking that knife, fixing all it's issues, then present it to your best man. Your learining experiences will make great object lessons.

My wife has one of.my 1st knives. I cringe when I see it but she will not let me fix or replace it. I can keep it sharp for her only. She say's it fits her hand right and she uses it to do all her minor cutting needs. I feel you Sir.

I've not finished my first knife yet, everyone who wants one from me once i finish my pre heat treat/quench grinding.😢 I've been complimented on the way they look currently, though.

😂 this is so funny! I was just looking at a first Damascus Bowie of mine. I was analyzing it in disgust and embarrassment! Just shaking my head. It was horrible. I finally threw it away.
