Panasonic HC-V180 Camcorder Review + Zoom/Low-Light TESTS!

Thanks for watching! Today I'm testing out my new Panasonic HC-V180 pocket camcorder. The zoom is the biggest selling point for this camcorder, and it's pretty impressive. You just don't get this much zoom in a package this size that often. Low light performance is acceptable. This is a great thing to have for quick spur-of-the-moment recording.

Thank you for this review! I have had a Panasonic HDC-HS80 for at least 10 years or so, absolutely LOVE it! Has an 80gb hard drive in it, pl;us the SD card slot. But it DIED on me! It will not power up, even with 2 fully charged batteries, it is DEAD! So I lose whatever videos are on that hd, but life goes on! I switched over to using an SD card a while back, was having problems connecting the camera to the computer to access the hd files, so all recent stuff is on that card. This HC-V180 seems perfect for me, I don't need that hd, have my 64 gb sdxc card. And the specs on this HC-V180, for $200, are far better than those of my other camera, in terms of still pic resolution (not that I use it), zoom length, those basic video parameters. I think I will pick up one of these HC-V180's to replace my old camera, thanks for your review! :)

Just bought this camera, excited for what it can do. For talking head vids, my plan is to use a lavalier mic with the recorder app on my phone and use that audio track instead.

Hi, your video introducing the cam is very nice, I just bought one of these. Is your cam having noise issues sounds like the fan or something, it has some noise coming out from the cam while is in recording mode?

Old vid, not a bad review. But you missed out the other important settings, If you haven't already found them. For those who haven't, If you press the iA icon in the top left corner. It takes you into the creative mode. with 5 more icon menus. Very similar to the Panasonic Lumix TZ compact cameras. The screen shows 6 icons. The iA. icon. There's an iA+, icon. In this mode you can adjust different parameters, such as the WB, exposure com. ect. 3rd Icon looks like painters palette. In that mode, you have, a miniature effect, 8mm movie effect, The old Silent movie effect and time lapse. 4th icon is the scene mode, with the usual Scene types, There are 11, including low light. 5th icon, Manual mode. This you gives full control of the Focus, WB, here you have the usual WB settings including a custom WB. You have full control of the Shutter Speed. and the Iris (Aperture) 6th Icon is a the loop mode..

I have 2 questions about the camera:

1) Is it possible to set a fixed exposure time or aperture so that the brightness in the shot does not always jump back and forth when the lighting conditions change?

2) Is it possible to set the focus manually to a certain distance without it jumping back and forth when a new object comes into the picture?

Is the focusing noise a normal thing for this camera ? I just got mine and I was worried that it was damaged. I’m also worried about a rattle sound in side the camera when I first picked it up or when the camera is off. Is all this normal ?
