I used to be an APC driver in the army. I drove in the water many times. They are buoyant as long as you have the pedal to the metal. If not, you have a 20 ton steel sinker. When in water all top hatches need to stay open and crew standing or if something goes wrong you will never get out. Those vehicles don’t need to be out in the ocean like that. Get a boat. Its 2020. Your not sneaking up on anyone. As usual, this smells of incompetent officers. RIP young souls.

I would say 8 missing and not found almost immediately are dead. Always tip toeing around the truth.

I'm crying as I look at the photos today of those young, smiling, bold faces, no longer with us, who joined a prestigious branch of our military. They all look courageous, brave and angelic, so much so that they departed while serving our country-the likes of me. My heart and prayers go out to the families of these fine, young men. As for the prevailing circumstances and equipment issues, let it not detract from the two survivors who are also in my thoughts and prayers. Thanks to every one of you, in every branch of the military, on the land, from sea to shining sea and in heaven. I salute you.

It’s the Marines, the government gives us the worst out dated equipment

They should put GPS systems on each soldier to help with situations like this. To find them as soon as possible

I'm a Navy vet my ship was a marine carry all. These vehicles need emergency blow out doors or the whole top of the vehicle blows off during the sinking. This is to much like Table Rock with the older model duck boats that were refitted with a permanent in closer . Again a human has trouble with the weight of the doors and hatches add the weight of the water pushing against them and the hydraulic rear door won't work if the engine stops running. It's not rocket science.

This is ridiculous. There is no back up in case shit goes wrong? WTF?
Inexcusable.

2020 and the military still using 1970s equipment. The real question is where are all those funds or budget for the military equipment that the government set aside every year? Hmmm 🤔

Completely unacceptable, time to shelf these 1970s "AAVs." If you can't design something unsinkable, don't use it. Better off using a Macgregor sailboat for crying out loud.

Are they going to release the names sooner or later? I know my friend died in this accident (his family contacted me) but I’m still in denial about it until I see his name on the news.:/💔

Military training is a serious business. People die in any realistic military training. A sad but true fact. God bless all involved.

Would be nice if there was a heavy duty bilge pump and perhaps a gas powered flotation device that might not keep it floating but create a barrier around hatches used to escape.
