Punching Louvers in a Model A Decklid with LG Speed & Kustom

In this video I show how I punched 120 Louvers in a Model A decklid.

The decklid turned out awesome! It's been a few years since I punched any louvers. As I recall it was fun to punch them, but considerably less fun when the time came to do bodywork and sanding prep around them.

My daughter and I used to punch louvres in decklids for Brookville, when we were at Tardels. His press was taller but mostly the same. We had 2 different size louvres. Kent Fuller and I did the Louvres on my decklid. But my decklid is aluminum. We fabbed thst too.

Your low speed grinder is called a feather edger and they were commonly used to feather in paint repairs on cars. With the advent of the DA sanders, they fell into obscurity.

My Dad had his 56 F100 Hood Louvered by George Barris back in the 60's. He claims the paint didn't even crack. So I guess if George was punching through paint, It must not cause too much damage to the punches... Yes I wish I had that hood today!

Not that I'm planning on doing it. But it would be expensive to do a 54 Chevy truck good. I saw a video of this guy that has a 4x4 Plymouth. He stamped the louvers
by hand. Cuts a slot for each . Stamps them in with a home made die, and ahammer
