That little red area in eastern Syria is Deir Ezzor, besieged between 14th July 2014 and 5th September 2017 (10th September air base siege lifted and 4th November final purge of the city) by around 10 000 ISIS terrorists against 4000 strong SAA garrison (and 100 000 trapped civilians) led by the supreme commander of the Republican Guard, Brigadier General Issam Zahreddine, Druzi. He stood every day with his soldiers on a frontline and inspired his men. He was promoted to Major General, sadly on 18th October 2017 he was killed by an IED. RIP Hero.
