Window screens have been giving me problems since I first became a professional carpenter. Traditional window screens break easily, tear easily, and the window screen splines come out.

They're bulky, fragile and ugly. The wider traditional window screen frames are almost always visible, and the delicate hardware stops working when UV rays and temperature changes damage the plastic or corrode the metal over time.

Flexscreen has solved a lot of these problems with an innovative concept--a one-piece window screen frame. Flexscreens are made of phosphate-enhanced steel, which is coated with pvc for weather protection. Screen mesh is then welded onto the surface of this frame. What you get is a window screen that is:

--Totally Flexible
--Durable
--Easy To Install/Remove
--Low Visibility
--Sleek and Attractive

After testing them out, we decided that the sharks on Shark Tank were right--these really are the next generation of window screen. But, we also note a couple drawbacks for FlexScreen:

--At about $70 base price per screen, FlexScreens are more expensive than traditional window screens, which tend to run $25-$45 per unit.

--FlexScreen is an order-and-ship company for now. This means that you have to measure for and install your own screens, which we know are going to give people some problems...

In the video, we give you a few ideas on how to simplify this process a bit. If measuring give you trouble, you can always use MOCK-UPS, which are physical models that help you visualize measurements.

Carpenters have been using mock-ups for a long time in certain applications, for everything from cabinet-mounting, to deck rail spacing and stair construction. A handful of quarters and some fresh cardboard can help you measure your windows for new window screens if need be.

I like your method of measuring. Spot on. I suspect if the original screen frame is still intact you can take the measurements from that. That would ensure exact measurements. On the other hand if you never had screens to begin with your method again is spot on. Keep up the great work.

We actually got new windows installed in December that have Flex Screen. THEY ARE AWESOME! And, if they rip, they replace them for free! Super excited for this summer! I didn't remove them for winter because they said we don't need to. They are really nice and very tight compared to regular screens in a track.

Saw flexscreen update on Sharktank and looked them up on their website and checked out some of their videos. Saw your video and have to say this was a great video. Love the pros and cons, cause everything has some sort of drawback. I hope I am done working on my house, but seeing your video has got a subscribe from me. Nice job. Thank you! I have been going through videos on how to install window screens. I moved into a house with windows that had never been opened and the screens were gone. I have managed to get 3 of the windows open and want to put in screens. The flex screen looks like a perfect option for me.

It looks like the FLEXSCREEN would pop out if the screen is pressed against from inside, especially if you don't have the track and need to use the black rubber bumpers. Used on second story, or higher window, might be an issue if you have small children in the house. Every year toddlers fall from apartment windows that have no screens.

I love your channel. Found it about a year ago, or soon after your move to Greensboro. We just had new windows installed today (here in Burlington) and we had the flexscreens added.
