Alex Gansa, creator, executive producer, and showrunner of Homeland, and stars Claire Danes and Mandy Patinkin join Entertainment Weekly’s Seija Rankin to reflect on the show’s Emmy-winning 8-season run. They discuss Carrie Mathison and Saul Berenson’s inimitable relationship, bringing spycraft to life, and what we’re all supposed to do now that it’s all come to an end.

Finally, a series ending that was neither obvious nor absurd. Mandy and Claire (and the rest of the cast throughout the 8 years) were splendid.

I just started watching Homeland and am on Season 6. I believe we as viewers are naive of the work that goes into making fiction on television. The amount of work you all put into each cog of the wheel is just abundant and hidden. Thank you all for a masterpiece of fiction and a glimpse of your behind the scenes work. Working for the State of Maryland as a Lieutenant in a Maximum Security prison for 20 years fiction helps to escape and indulge in wonderful piece of fiction. Thank you all so much!

The perfect ending. Claire and Mandy were consistently brilliant.

Perhaps the greatest series ending I’ve ever seen. It was damn near perfect, and I appreciate it! Carrie is such a great example of having a "true north" in their life. It’s not quite a singleness of purpose (which is typically uglier and less nuanced - rabid even), but she just knew right from wrong - often when everyone else didn’t and she alone did.

Of course, the Carrie x Gromov "relationship" is problematic, now do you think Yevgeny is toxic? Because?

Compared to the other relationships (Brody, Quinn, Jonas), platonic or not, Carrie had - in my humble opinion - YES.
