I'm wondering if you could just strim it then cover the whole lot with a few layers of cardboard. I feel that will smother any grass / weeds and then as it rots down you could plant straight through the cardboard in

That will keep you busy Peter ! I'd never have time to get to an allotment so I've never applied for one.
The pumpkin that's taken over is crazy 😱. It's nice to have a decent workable space, very exciting 👍

Well done Peter on getting an allotment, at least it's not too overgrown, and weed suppressant fabric has been laid down and you have raised beds. If you would like some tropical squash seeds, Hyacinth bean seeds ive got some I can send you.
