Fiat 500C convertible review - CarBuyer

On first sight of the Fiat 500, you could be forgiven for thinking you had stepped back in time... Fiat's recreation of its famous 1960s city car is so faithful; you really can park the new and old models next to each other and compare like for like. Following on from the massive success of the 500 hatchback, Fiat wasted no time in removing the roof to create the diminutive 500C cabriolet. It's not a true convertible, though, as only the centre section of the roof folds down, and the window frames on either side remain in place. The range of small and cheap to run petrol and diesel engines from the hatchback is carried over, and unsurprisingly the 500C drives similarly to the hatchback, with light and easy controls. The same cute, retro looks are a big part of the appeal, and a big selling point for the 500.

3:10 There's an air deflector at the very front of the open roof (at least on North American models) that you can unlock and it will pop up, eliminating this wind noise. I personally keep it down all the time because I enjoy the extra wind :)

I've owned my 2012 500c for over a year, daily driven in Canadian winters, and am crazy enough to do regular 1000km journeys with it. It's an absolute blast to drive, even in my 6 foot stature. The only real issue has been with frayed wires in the convertible top towards the upper brake light, and towards the trunk. A simple soldering job + stress relieving material remedied this.

This car deserve more then money, because it made of the beautiful 500 History and the italian style which is a combination between the past and the present in one car, its the Fiat 500 !

I love the "rag top" feature as it seems it would be pleasant to drive on a beautiful day. Your review pointed out a most chilling fact and that is that when the "rag top" is fully engaged, it makes seeing what's behind you virtually impossible to detect. Im picking up my 500 on friday and cant wait, ive got rid of my Jaguar XE sport for this and couldnt be happier, all about personal choice, what doesnt work for one works for the other. As long as it does what it needs to happy days :)

My US version of the 500 (1.4 Pop) has a similar "City Park" feature but it's automatic. Surely it wouldn't be too difficult to fit this to the ROW cars. And for those who're wondering, in place of that button is a sport button that firms up the steering permanently, and on automatics holds the gears a bit longer.

Good review.... just forgot to mention this is the base model the 'pop'... hence why it has no rear head restraints and no parking sensors on the so visibility isnt an issue at all. Get the lounge model :)
