The reason it costs so much is because you can get it on all your characters right from the start of the game and it is also faster than regular mounts.  Anyone familiar with MMOs knows that speed can mean a lot.

I agree with that, but there are some add-ons for games that some people are willing to buy becuase they enjoy the game that much.
Take Binding of Isaac's Wrath of the Lamb for example. it's only three dollars (60% of the original's price), it adds just about 5 alternate areas and several reskinned bosses, but it also includes new item to make your character overpowered and it adds to replay value rather greatly.

$5 = 10% of the price of the game. I just don't understand why anyone would pay that for a freakin' mount. I only buy expansions if they give me a lot of bang for my buck. Like Borderlands and GTA IV DLC.

Rather pay 5 bucks for that than 15 for a CoD add-on or countless more on keys and hats and other stuff on TF2. I don't know about you, but the money I have is going for Dawnguard. Alot more stuff, and only $20.
