I really enjoy your thoroughly researched and thoughtful reviews. I’ve been sharing your videos with friends who are interested in jazz music but aren’t yet familiar with what’s out there. I’m a longtime appreciator, but I learn something new and interesting from each video. Insightful music criticism is extremely rare, so keep up the excellent work!

Great review, Allan. I'm sensing an inherent admiration for Golson and the Jazztet too, and a possible future review? ;-)

Thanks for the review, this record has been on my radar for quite a while. Art Farmer is a favorite of mine. I'm pretty much a Blue Note guy, and I always welcome his beautiful tone and lyricism that elevates a hardbop date, most famously on Sonny Clark's Cool Struttin'. Just a quick correction: Art Farmer made two records with Horace Silver (the other one is Further Explorations, also excellent).

I have all the records you show, I love Art Farmer. My guitar teacher played a lot with Art and I played with his son George for some time. Art was afro American but also of native American heritage btw, I think you did not mention this detail.

Hello Alan, just discovered your channel. I really love the way that you present things Man, really. This is clear, understandable, you know what you hear, feel etc. This is top and so rare today to hae somebody who explains really what he presents. BRAVO.
I'm a huge Jazz fans since I was born.
I'm intrigued by what you say at the beginning of your presentation. You say that the OJC reissue has 9 titles. Mine only has 8. Would there then have been 2 OJC editions? The extra track you're talking about is on the CDS editions.
Thank you in advance for this clarification.

Well, Mr. Castle, I've watched about six or seven of your reviews today, and I plan to view a few more before the day is done. I like that you focus on quality and perhaps lesser-known recordings in an artist's oeuvre. I haven't heard you say, "This one is a dud and it merits only two stars." That you spend your time on art that has proved itself over decades is a good guide to jazz for people who may not be in the know. Tell me, do you ever review recordings on a CD issue, or is your focus always vinyl? I only ask because I think trying to buy a sixty-year-old vinyl album is probably cost-prohibitive for many. CDs seem to be a cheaper alternative in today's market. Do you frown upon CDs as a lesser form or do you collect them, too?
On Art Farmer--he was another top-notch jazzman who never made a bad record. Portrait of Art is another example of his skill. I've loved the record for years. Thanks for the review.
