With over 63 million people India is home to the second largest number of people with diabetes in the world. With 16 branches and close to 300,000 registered patients, Dr. Mohan's Diabetes Specialities Centre is one of the largest diabetes centres. It's philosophy of total diabetes care under one roof at reasonable costs, has made it very popular not only all over India but in many of the neighbouring countries as well including Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Singapore, Maldives and the Middle East. The Madras Diabetes Research Foundation has been contributing to research on diabetes, epidemiology of diabetes, genomics of diabetes and food and nutrition research. As part of its outreach program the centre also provides services to over 40 villages in rural Tamil Nadu that do not have any access to diabetes care.

I have worked there in Madras Diabetic Research Foundation (MDRF), Chennai, Tamil Nadu, lndia. It's a world class institution for diabetic patients. But only rich people can afford it. Charity is not much compared to the amount of money they get. They are establishing centers in many parts of the world. Dr. V. Mohan is a well known diabetologist, a businessman and a Scientist. His citations are more than 1 lakh times.
He is a Padma Shri awardee & lots of awards and accolades. He displayed everything in his Room and office. He has a very good research team now. He has international collaborations & he is a Satya Sai Baba devotee after separating from his Father's hospital. From 18 years onwards he was getting training from his father a highly accomplished doctor with net work all over the world. Dr
V. Mohan also started writing papers along with his Dad. His Father the late
Dr. Vishwanathan was a diabetologist and Dr. Jeya Singh, a surgeon joined together and started Vijaya Diabetic center in Chennai way back. Later
Dr. Jeya Singh left the institution due to some issues. He wanted to be an Evangelist and a doctor serving the Needy. He established Gospel clinic in Royapuram. They are doing well and treating mostly underprivileged and middle class patients. Dr. Jeyanth Samuel, ENT doctor is leading the clinic and conducting medical camps in several places. I had some issues with them, especially with late wife Dr. Rema Mohan, Ophthalmologist at Dr. Mohan's Diabetic Specialty Center, Gopalapurum, Chennai. Dr. V. Mohan is a better person.
Dr. V. Mohan and Dr. Rema Mohan separated from the parent institution and started the new hospital at Gopalapurum and doing well. Dr. R. M. Anjana their daughter is another diabetologist practicing with Dr. V. Mohan in Gopalapurum hospital. His son in law Dr. Ranjith and a team of doctors are also there. I worked in MDRF only around 6 months. I was the Scientist and Head
of Clinical Genetics, MDRF, Gopalapurum, Peter's Road, Chennai. He did his PDC at the Zoology department, Loyola college, Nungambakkam, Chennai. I wish them all the best.
