This is the first version that opens the album, the acoustic version, titled My, My, Hey, Hey (Out of the Blue). The album ends with an incredibly raw, raucous electric version titled Hey, Hey, My, My (Into the Black). Much different vibe, as you can imagine - especially on the follow-up tour album, "Live Rust."

Great stuff!

There is both “Hey Hey, My My” and “My My, Hey Hey”, and you’ve really got to hear both to appreciate what Neil can do with a song!

"It's better to burn out, than to fade away." Yeah, we sure lost a lot of our heros. Glad Neil is still with us, what, 60 years now? AMAZING!

I may have shared this story before, so apologies if I'm repeating myself. My high school sweetheart and I were together in 1972, but after the break-up and our graduations, we went to separate colleges and I moved out of state, so we lost touch with each other. We both played guitar at the time, and Neil Young brought us together. We both loved his music, and it was about the time his Harvest album came out. The old flame would come over and we would always jam to Neil Young. Fast- forward to 2010, I got a FB message from him, after 36 years, and the rest is history. We got married in 2011! Probably sounds corny, but not to us! All this being said, Neil Young will ALWAYS be special to us! Thanks for this great reaction and stirring up the nostalgia of reminiscing about our love story. ✌💙✌

Neil Young is simply one of the greatest song writers ever... He's created his own path throughout his career and never bowed to corporate pressure. A true original.
A few songs you'd love: "POCAHONTAS" (one of the most beautiful, haunting songs ever) and "LIKE A HURRICANE, " and "I AM A CHILD"... Brilliant all.

You have to watch Neil light up the stage on Saturday Night Live Rocking in the Free World. He's masterful. HIs music pierces through to the core.

I recommend his “Like a Hurricane.” Show cases his electric guitar work which is incredible. He is one of the best.

Best song ever written about Rock N' Roll. One of the best songwriters and guitarists there is. Listen to the electric version of this song next Hey Hey My My (Into The Black). This version is live, Neil is great live or studio.

In Kurt Cobain's suicide note, Cobain used a portion of the lyrics from this song - “It's better to burn out than to fade away”. Young has said that finding out that Cobain had used this lyric in his suicide note scarred him and messed with his mind for a long time. He was saddened that he felt that Cobain had misunderstood what Young had meant by that particular lyric

The first song I heard written and sung by Neil Young was when he was a member of Buffalo Springfield in about 1967. "Mr. Soul" is still one of my favorite songs, ever. Give it a listen sometime.
