In this video, Excel GetPivotData Function; Udemy instructor, Leila Gharani explains Excel's GetPivot Data Function to help you create well-designed Excel dashboards so you and your colleagues can see trends and make quick decisions informed by data.

Excel’s GetPivotData Function is great for extracting your pivot table data in a dynamic way. The reference is independent of the cell position. The only requirement is that the value you want to extract is visible in your pivot table – but it doesn’t matter where. Why would you want to extract data from a pivot table in a dynamic way? You could be referencing these values in your final Excel reports – or you need to create a pivot chart that doesn’t have any limitations or restrictions. You’d like to use all the options available when making normal Excel charts but use Pivot Table data. Find out more in this Excel tutorial.

I’ve recently starting using it. Finding it useful as an alternative to xlookuping large data sets. Improves performance by referencing a summarised version of it in a pivot tablle.

Hi Leila. Thank you for all your videos. Really great! I am wondering if there is an option you can add comments section to a pivot table other way then actually have special 'comments' column in the original data tab. I need to update my pivot with comments, but I couldn't find the option to do so. Please let me know if there is such option. Thank you

Brilliant is there away of having the title on the chart dynamically linked to the slicer?

Hi Leila, I download a bank statement daily and add information to it. With the information I have created an Analysis field so as to be able to identify types of expenditure and receipts during the year for each month. I created a pivot table that has the receipt and expenditure type in each row in one column, and Years in one row and Months in another in each column from left to right to the end of the data. With total for each were the intercept. I have been trying to add an opening and closing balance rows just below the Grand Totals in my Pivot Table. I ideally wanted it all auto update when I hit the refresh on the Pivot Table. I cannot get it to work unless I do it manually by pulling a column of data from left to right to reference the new data in the Pivot Table. I cannot seem to get the GETPIVOTDATA to work with the Receipt/Expenditure type with the Years and Months.

Do you have any suggestions. If you would like to see my file and advise I am more that happy for you to take a look. I can change the data.

Many thanks!

Kind regards,

Jason.

Is there a way to extract data from one table and insert in another? I have a table with internal invoice numbers that repeat multiple times to show sub contractor invoices. I like to extract each internal invoice and have them in a separate table where each will be unique. I hope this makes sense. As you can probably tell, I’m a novice.

Do you suggest using that instead of vlookups?

Hi Leila,

Great video, as always! I have a question regarding the categories. You pointed out that they need to be visible in the Pivot Table. My question is if this also includes filters? I would prefer to have one category in the filter field, so I can better read the data in the Pivot Table itself. Tschüss!
