Avoid grocery store sushi well that's the easiest warning yet lol.

Note, some of these items are applicable to all sushi... And others only really apply if you are dealing with a real sushi restaurant (and not the stuff from the grocery store)...

Honestly you can eat sushi however the hell you want to do there's really no etiquette if you're at home or something like that

Well, Publix makes fresh sushi. I guess I need to compare it to a Japanese restaraunt sushi

Actually, you preferably use your own fingers to eat sushi with, not chop sticks. You do use chop sticks for Sashimi.

Anthony Bourdain gives advice on… what not to do… better then
most other feckless chefs.

When in doubt, place your trust in the hands of your sushi chef. They know better than you do what is really working that day, especially if you're not super sure about what you're doing.

Fun fact: sushi roll is an American invention, similar to Japanese maki rolls except the rice is on the outside and these rolls are usually jam-packed with everything. Japanese sushi tends to be very simple just fish, rice, and nori compared to an eel avocado roll where its eel, avocado, cucumber, cream cheese, rice, nori, sesame seeds, unagi sauce on top, and spicy mayo on top. You won't see rolls at traditional sushi places unless it's a maki or hand roll, it'll be mostly nigiri and sashimi.

Also to add, the other reason you don't mix wasabi into your soy sauce is that you want harmony between the different components but you can't get that if your sauce is diluted and the wasabi is just gone.

Just had grocery store sushi for lunch today. I use chopsticks but also lay down a layer of soy sauce mixed with wasabi.... This is America where we throw everything into the melting pot and end up with fusion foods anyway... It was pretty dang good tho!

This is all true and great advice but I think only true for good sushi restaurants. The basic place in urban spots don't well balance flavor

I love me some sushi and can agree with some of these and also disagree. Our kids love sushi including my oldest who is 11 who loves octopus (not me tastes like chewing an eraser). We have a local place that we go to for special occasions and spend quite a bit for the real sushi experience. Watching the preparation and seeing how the flavors come together. It is lovely.

Then we also have our boys wanting sushi and our local wegmans has some pre made rolls. We may grab a family size to share which my kids grab more then the wife and I but hey they are eating. Is it good? Is it great not really but considering the price it is like McDonald’s vs a fine steak house. You may be in the mood for one or the other.

Sake is not wine, it is beer. The sugars that are fermented are released from the rice via a brewing process, same as Budweiser. Fun fact: Anheuser Busch is the largest consumer of rice in the US.

While I grew up eating with chop sticks, I was always taught sashimi was to be eaten with chop sticks and sushi was to be eaten with the hand.

I always ask to substitute tartar sauce for the wasabi anyway.

so you say not to dip the rice end into your soy sauce, and then at 6:38 show a picture of people doing that exact thing.
