Are there advantages in using DSD to master analog?

The movie industry, or should I say more precisely, the film restoration community has been restoring and digitizing and releasing old movies on disc for years now. I feel like they know the value in restoring old movies, not just so that new generations can stream them or watch them on disc, but as a way of preserving heritage.

The music industry, on the other hand, I feel like they do not see the need to archive old failing worn out analog tape to a high resolution digital format for preservation purposes.

I didn't mind Mobile Fidelity doing that, as they captured the tape before it deteriorated further, before anyone else wanted to master the album again.

I guess the question we all have is WHY is not happening extensively? ie move EVERYTHING worth moving to DSD and print SACDs. I also cannot understand why the top-5000 albums (in sales) worldwide cannot be available in SACD. I am struggling so much to gather SACDs, I find 5-7 per month to add and a lot are permanently not-available (ie the Black Sabbath ones remastered from original tapes back in 2010-2012). What is the barrier to cross? Can’t it be an industry-wide collaboration to keep these cultural treasures safe for eternity?

Are you sure you want to get into R to R transfers? You'll be baking tapes.

Good to see he has toned it down with the outlandish locations that these "letters" originated from. Nothing from Afghanistan, North Korea or Antartica. 😜
