Mumbai–Ahmedabad High Speed Rail Corridor (MAHSR) or Mumbai–Ahmedabad HSR is an under-construction high-speed rail line connecting India's economic hub Mumbai with the city of Ahmedabad. When completed, it will be India's first high-speed rail line.

Construction was expected to begin by April 2020, and the project was expected to be completed by December 2023. Due to delays acquiring land in Maharashtra, a completion date for the whole corridor is uncertain, though the 352km stretch through Gujarat may open in 2027. A stretch of 50 km (31 mi), from Surat to Bilimora, is expected to be completed by 2026.

Many factors consider for this
1) Eco system should not be disturbed
2) Land acquisition ( major issue)
3) Site condition to suit its speed without infringement
4) So it must be elevated with less curvature

Speed is never a waste of money. I remember traveling in trains for 2-3 days. Now air travel has cut the time of travel. But with airports, they are generally outside the city, and you have to book a taxi or something else to get inside the city. Also for such a large population and country, every mode of transport that cuts time, is welcome. Those who want comfort and convenience won't mind paying a bit more to get from point A to point B.
Indian travelers too deserve and are demanding comfort and convenience.

He forgot to mention for such high speed trains you need less track curves. On the ground where there are hard track curves, the trains have to slow down drastically. Metro, mono, trams etc trains can handle small track curve

Elevated lines will require considerably less land acquisition to be performed. In India land prices are going through the roofs, many infrastructure projects are stuck in design and land acquisition process for years, there will always be someone who is unwilling to let go of their land. In elevated mode, only the land where the pillar rests will need to be acquired, people can still carry out their tasks on the ground level. Even farmers can continue to carry out farming activities on the ground level around the pillars. For a densely populated country such as India, building railways and highways on pillars and allowing the general public to use the land on the ground would be the best compromise between land acquisition and displacing people. Cost of elevated construction can be offset against the time and money needed for land acquisition.

It won't affect movement of people from each side of track. And you won't need to fence up track.

And very less land acquisition required and avoiding legal hassle if somebody goes against the land acquisition in name of farmers.

India needs more longer distance bullet trains connecting it's all 8 megacities

One of the most important reasons is the erosion of soil which will be aggravated by high speed and weighing bullet trains. Even if you manage to make an ideal gradient on the ground, you can't ignore the erosion problem which will increase many times than for a normal speed train.

Europe although has HSR, but very few routes and distances which can be travelled at 250kmph and only handful of routes with 300kmph+ speed. Furthermore it Shares these high speed routes with semi high speed, regional and freight trains. Hence having a dedicated HSR route and freight corridor in a huge country like India with a massive population is actually beneficial. This also provides the regular tracks for trains like vande bharat etc

Depends on the HSR trains used as well. The French TGV routes are very much like a roller coaster because those trains are meant to negotiate tight curves and steep inclines regularly at high speeds of 300 km/h and more. However, their passenger capacity is slightly reduced due to using Jakobs bogies (these bogies help the TGV to negotiate a tougher terrain but make the length of the coaches shorter).

The Japanese Shinkansen requires very straight, level tracks. Hence, the elevated route. Japan was willing to provide a soft loan like this so its alright if we have taken them as an option. France is still a technical advisor.

Everything india does for development is a “waste” of money, according to some “legends”! Kudos

You made the secondary reason as a primary. The main and foremost reason is trespassing by human/ animal. These bullet trains runs at very high speed even a slight collision can make this train derail. Just to isolate these high speed trains three dimensionally from surrounding interference these ducts are made.
