Making Fritulice With Baka! A Delicious Croatian Dessert!

This evening we made fritulice with Baka. Fritulice are little doughnut holes, which are a very popular Croatian dessert, especially around Christmas time. They are often sold on the streets throughout Zagreb during Advent, and the streets are filled with this fantastic scent!

Fritulice are very easy to make, there aren't too many ingredients, and the whole process takes about 30 mins.

Baka likes to add a grated apple to the batter to keep the fritulice from drying out too much. Other people put in orange or lemon grind, and often others add raisins as well.

Here's the recipe:

- 2 eggs
- 2 tablespoons of sugar
- 2 packs of vanilla sugar
- 2 mugs of Greek yoghurt
- 20 tablespoons of flour (more if needed to get the right consistency)
- 12 grams of baking powder
- 1 grated apple
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Mix the ingredients listed in the order above, then take a spoonful of batter and drop in a pot with heated oil.

The fritulice will start to turn over by themselves when they're ready, and they'll flip to the other side. Once both sides are golden brown, they're ready to toss in powdered sugar. You can also put chocolate or jam or other toppings as well!

Enjoy!

My Italian nonna used to make something very similar (called Frittole) - We're from Northern Italy - near Venice- so obviously these recipes traveled back and forth across the Adriatic. Lijepi pozdravi iz Vankuvera. Uzivajte!

Nice. I also did that as a kid with baka in Croatia.
Your kids are growing up multilingual. That's really a nice start for them.

My mother user to add some potato dough, raisins and an _obligatory_ splash of - what else - rakija (usually grappa). Apparently, grappa makes them soak less oil, or so the legend goes.

My mum makes amazing Fritulice here in Australia. She doesn't sell them though :)

Any chance of getting Baka to make a traditional Sarma. Similar to what they would serve at a Croatian wedding.
