Shannon Briggs (born December 4, 1971) is a former American professional boxer. He has held a world heavyweight championship twice, including the lineal title from 1997 to 1998, and the WBO title from 2006 to 2007. Briggs is known for his formidable punching power and aggression, possessing an 88.3% knockout-to-win percentage with 37 knockout wins in the first round. Undisputed heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis stated in 2015 that Briggs had the fastest hands and best punching power of any opponent he ever faced. He holds notable wins over heavyweight champions George Foreman, Ray Mercer and Siarhei Liakhovich.

Briggs was born in Brooklyn, New York and raised in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn. For a period in his childhood he was homeless. In 1983, when Briggs was 12, he saw Mike Tyson in Bristol Park, Brooklyn, New York. Briggs' friends called out, "Here comes Mike." Briggs said he was too scared to run and that seeing Tyson that day "changed his life." At age 17, Briggs began training at Jimmy O'Pharrow's Starrett City Boxing Club in Brooklyn, NY. He was diagnosed with asthma as a child.[citation needed] Briggs' mother died in Brownsville due to a heroin overdose on December 4, 1996, Briggs' 25th birthday.

Some of these opponents are marginal at best. But it sure is fun watching Shannon tee off on these guys! He really lobbed some serious bombs.

Shannon Briggs was a full tilt monster his whole career. Only time he lost is when he gassed himself out.

I think if Shannon Briggs fought Ray Mercer in his prime with that box haircut it would've been more competitive but either way LETS GO CHAMP!!!

Like Briggs or not, he didn't beat George Foreman on points, and Big George pounded the shit out of him. Everybody -- HBO's commentators and scorer included -- all had Foreman way ahead to retain his heavyweight title. Briggs won't admit that the old man beat him up. That decision was a fix or the judges were blind, stumbling drunk.

I know alot of the comments note that his opponents weren't high caliber fighters...but those are the guys that Briggs is SUPPOSED to beat !

He hit every opponent with 20 shots before knocking them down then another 20 to knock them out, no such thing as a one punch knockout here

tf? This is a misleading title... 3/10 were knockouts, the rest were technical knockouts.

Shannon Briggs may not have been the hardest hitting heavyweight, but he did have good boxing skills.
