Complete sincerity. You have to be completely sorry and accept responsibility. I was at a magic show a few years ago that went in an offensive direction. The performer engaged me afterwards and allowed me to tell him why I was offended and how far over the line I thought he had gone. He told me he was sorry for offending my party and that he was going to drop that line of jokes from his act. He didn't say "I'm sorry to anyone I might have offended" as if it was my problem that he was offensive. He accepted responsibility and I appreciated his sincerity. I have been a fan of his ever since and defended him when others brought up the incident later.

I feel sincerity it’s one of the keys, a genuine look in the eyes and a soft tone of voice will do the work.

I think sincerity is one of the key parts of an effective apology, owning up to ones mistakes makes you human just like everyone else and does not elevate you above anyone. Jay some really great tips in this video, thank you for sharing and keep up the excellent work.

I think the biggest key to an effective appology is sincerity and honesty.

I absolutely LOVE what you said about “coming up with ideas that are yours” and not to focus on what’s “new.” I tell my students much of the same thing. Sometimes I have students who want to be like someone else and I always tell them to be themselves because that’s who the ARE and that I like that better anyway. FANTASTIC video Jay!

One of the keys to an apology; for me it’s not just admitting I messed up but it’s actively working to correct the situation for the other person 🎼☕️

I think that genuine apologies really speak for them selfs. Taking a moment to stop everything and not moving on until you get the sense that the person knows you're truly sorry.

One of the main keys to an effective apology is actually showing that you mean your apology. A real apology can't just be lip service, but actually heart felt. People can see through a BS apology.

The key to an effective apology is simple... it's sincerity!

Sincerity is key. An automatic apology will be dismissed but sincerity will garner forgiveness.

Great question Jay, and not one I've really thought about, but here's a few thoughts. First, everyone will view your mistake/response differently. So, cater your apology to your audience. For example, if your audience is a bit smaller or quieter, then the apology should be sincere and down to earth, but not overbearing or loud. Also, it's always better to over-apologize than under-apologize to anyone, because falling short will always seem like you don't really care. Love the ten tips, so as always, keep it up!

Proper eye contact, body language, and sincerity... along with the words “I’m sorry” makes the apology. Your actions after that make the apology real. For example if you knock someone’s glass over then clean it up... & buy them another drink.
