Who else watched this after accidentally pumping gas while your car was on

I would like to point out, you are more likely to get in a wreck if your engine is running as well. We should probably turn it off then too.

They showed the video where the guy was trying to kill a spider with a lighter and gasoline nozzle. I don’t think that was either a car running or static problem lol.

If you have a spark in your gas tank, you are blowing up no matter what--whether you're pumping gas or not, you're screwed. This video showed fires from static, and are combining it with leaving your car running even though they aren't connected.

Um no, a fire starting from your engine running is so unlikely it’s not even worth thinking about.

Where I live it's cold asf.
If we shut our engines off in the dead of winter we wouldn't get them started again.
Just ground yourself to remove any static before grabbing the nozzle you'll be just fine fueling with a running vehicle

"If the heat from the engine comes in contact with fuel" lmfao you apparently have no idea how an engine works. There's no danger in leaving your car running while pumping gas. Hence the reason this entire video is about static electricity.

Ah the good old days when gas was under $3 😮‍💨

Wouldn't the static electricity ignite the fuel even when the car is off?

I wonder how rare it would still be if everyone tried to leave their engine on...

I was topping up the petrol tank today but the trigger of the nozzle could not be held in the pressed configuration.

I used a station for right sided petrol tanks but pulled the nozzle over to the left side since that was the only one available for my car which was left sided.

I had to keep my hand pulling on the nozzle tube because if I let go, the nozzle would fall out from the tube being pulled back to the right side since it was attached to an extendable string.

I asked my mum to check how full the petrol tank was and she said almost 70%.

Then I asked her if she turned the engine off and she said yes.

As I was about to press the trigger on the nozzle, she told me that the engine was still on.

I asked her why did she say the engine was off when it was not and she said she thought it was off.

If I had pressed the trigger the petrol could have exploded and caused me severe burns because the engine would have been on.

Even if I had let go of the nozzle, the nozzle would have been pulled out by the extendable string and the petrol would have sprayed or dripped on my hands and body since it would have been pulled back to the right side of the car.

Listening to "professionals" speak about subjects they should know about is laughable, this woman is one of them. Been filling up for decades with vehicles equipped with both carburetors and fuel injection with the engines running.

Did it for years at a car dealership. Fueled the cars while running. Nothing ever happened

Pretty much the news station asked her to state the obvious and she succeeded.

Yeah you think a fire chief will tell you otherwise? I've always done it with the engine on, nothing ever happens. And that explosion clip they showed, it most likely wasn't caused by the engine running.

I have never in my 50+ years seen a car combust at a gas pump. The odds must be very low.

you don’t have to run your hand on the car body. simply placing your hand on the body will ground you and static would ignited it regardless of the car running
