Canadian members of parliament observed a minute of silence on Wednesday in solidarity with the people of Lebanon, following last week’s deadly blast in Beirut that hit the city’s port area.

The moment of silence happened after several members read statements expressing solidarity and support for the people of Lebanon and the Lebanese community in Canada.

Speaker of the House, Anthony Rota, said the moment of silence took place after an agreement between all representatives of different parties of the house.

The federal government has pledged to provide $5 million in humanitarian aid to Lebanon announced by Minister of International Development Karina Gould.

The explosion has taken the lives of over 150, injured thousands and left about a quarter of a million people homeless.

I offer my deepest condolences to those who were affected by the incident. I hope they find out the root cause of why it happened and that better precautions are taken in the future.

There should be a similar moment of silence for the Canadian economy. From every major city and province, Canada far and wide, innovation and private industry are being decimated as the rest of the world eats our lunch.

I wonder which agencies are to blame...

No disrespect to the victims of the tragedy, my heart goes out to all the families affected with my sincerest condolences. It's just our government is a clown show.

A minute of silence is an excuse to forget about it. Make sure liabilities are addressed and this doesn't happen again, Period. The suffering people will be without silence for much longer than a minute.

For everyone saying that their politicians are as bad as ours (Lebanese), know that your politicians are like a mother Theresa compared to ours.
