Addams Family Values is 30 years old!

This sequel is played more for macabre laughs but made Barry Sonnenfeld a household name
It definitely has the same edge as its predecessor along with a story that's much funnier juggling 3 major storylines
The funniest stuff has to involve a play the kids have to put on celebrating Thanksgiving and trust me there's a million levels of prejudice the kids even address (being politically correct) Wednesday even falls in love for a short while with a fellow camper
The dreary sets and the gothic atmosphere are still present yet at times they take a backseat
There's also plenty of family-centered problems like splitting up with someone, not getting enough time, not fitting in, young love, not liking a new family member, not liking two family members and them not liking you back
If you break a family apart though that's where the line is drawn, that's where the Addams discover how much stronger they are together
The film isn't necessarily better but there's a lot to enjoy looking at these relatives and their optimism with the dark and depressing culture they're so imbued with
That's what makes them so special and fascinating to watch
Joan Cusack is delicious as this villainess and the rest of the actors continue bringing likability to their roles

Jenna Ortega's portrayal of Wednesday retroactively makes the previous versions of her character seem... wrong. The Wednesday series is the ONLY version of the Adams Family that correctly portrays her as Latina. Not even the original Adams Family TV series from the 1960's has a Latina Wednesday -- which doesn't make sense considering her father is Latino.
