This is a review of a 2009 Porsche 997.2, which included some nice updates including direct injection engine, PDK dual clutch transmission, plus an updated Porsche PCM radio system. The other main difference is that this 997.2 were the last years for the more compact 911 models before the Porsche 991 was introduced.

The 2009 997.2 eliminated the dreaded IMS Bearing issue. That is the best thing about the 997.2 over the 997. I'm surprised he didn't mention that. Good review though.

Keeping my 2009 997.2 C4S! Turning 130K on the clock. Great 911.👍✌❤🙏

This is perhaps the last of the smaller 911s. That is exactly why I love it. The newer models may have more power, but lack the soul of these years. These were great years for the 911. Not my favourite years... but definitely better than the oversized and overpowered and OVERPRICED 911s of late. Thanks for technical overview during this review.

Eliminatiion of the IMS is arguably THE most important change with the 997.2.

Im picking up my 997.2 C2S PDK tomorrow. I would have liked a manual as Im from the UK :-) but I have nerve damage in my left foot so PDK it is. It felt great on the test drive and I literally cant wait till tomorrow. I likes this review as I am watching hundreds of vids leading up to the big day. We start of as kids and remain that way!

My 2 favorite models of 911...964 Carrera 2 and 997.2 GTS, both with manual a gearbox. Thanks for sharing Zack!

Great review! Love my fully optioned 997.2 S Cab MT Cab. It’s by far the best car I’ve ever owned.

997 is also the last gen with a manual hand brake.

One of the best descriptions of PDK that I've seen.
997.2 manual gearbox is few and far between as not many made. Highly sought after by purists, therefore holding value very well.

Happy with my 09 PDK C2. I already have the best manual gear box in my s2000 and the PDK is the best dct.

Its amazing as people keep repeating in this coments as a parrots(Has they have only reading about it) about the IMS Bearing issue. Guys, this is a very, very rare issue. only a few cars have had this issue for all productions units between 2005 to 2009. its more a 996 issue but as welll is very rare. Go and ask any Porsche dealer about how many cars they have seen with this problem.

My 09 Carrera S is my 4th 911 I’ve owned since 1973 and the first one without a manual transmission. I was on the fence about the PDK transmission until I finally drove one. To me it’s just a manual transmission without the third pedal. In 2009 the paddle shifters were hot available, just the weird, hard to get use to, for me, buttons. My first upgrade was getting rid of the stock steering wheel and have the sport paddle shift steering wheel installed. The next thing I did was replace the stock mufflers with Fister cans. The sound I wanted wasn’t quite there, so then I had the Sharkwerks crossover pipes installed and that did the trick. Perfect old school 911 sound with cracks and pops when decelerating.
Now that I am retired this is my daily driver, as long as it’s not raining.
Let me add that the way I drive the PDK is to allow all fluids to warm to operating temperature, engage Sport Plus and drive the car in manual mode. To me this is just about an engaging driving experience as driving a traditional manual transmission with the piece of mind that you cannot make a Money Shift.

Thanks for the review. For earlier generations, it’s manual all the time. However I would prefer the PDK so it’s nice they go for less money than the manual.

got a 2009, 997.2 4, cab, manual transmission, had 50k kilometers when purchased for $50k US- the review was good, but should have mentioned that this was the last 911 with hydraulic steering if that matters to you. So, you get a DFI engine, and old school steering. I mostly drive it on weekends and track/time trials with no real mods except a bit more camber, very sticky RE 71Rs, and its pretty great, not insanely quick, but super fun on the track (I'm an old wheel-to-wheel racer) - and even with these aggressive tires, the car still is fine on long trips, go figure. I really like manuals, no matter that the PDK is quicker, particularly at turn 2 at Sonoma. Also, I have to say, although I mostly hate convertibles, this one is pretty darn good, the cabin is quiet, I can put the top down to load and unload things and I've come to like putting the top down for night driving, the wind guard really helps in this. And because I'm old, I like the really nice interior, I have super adjustable seats that are heated and air-conditioned (blowers!). The fact that, with zero expectation, the car is going up ridiculously high in value is an added bonus although I don't really care about putting mileage and even hard mileage on the car, it's designed to be used. BTW, I don't think Porsche ever made a GTS 911 that was all-wheel drive.

Direct fuel injection maintenance seems a little (or a lot) scary to me. Also THAT ROAD!!!!

Great video, hits the same points I considered in my search. The same is happening in the UK; I've had my manual 997.2 S for over 3 years now but keep an eye on the market and if I hadn't picked up that one, I'd have been struggling to find another since. Helping a friend pick one up now, all he can find is PDKs and they've all gone up too - but the good news is they're still out there.
Great cutaway videos as well, hadn't seen those before.
