President Joe Biden welcomed British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak for wide-ranging talks, including Ukraine, China, economic security and artificial intelligence. 2 US lawmakers are hoping the president and the prime minister do not forget about a Catholic man in Hong Kong who is currently sitting behind bars. That imprisoned Catholic is 75 year old media tycoon, Jimmy Lai. President Biden says, "Together we're providing economic, humanitarian aid and security assistance to Ukraine and their fight against the brutal invasion of the Russians." Prime Minister Sunak stated, "and again for the first time in over half a century we face a war on the European continent and as we've done before, the US and the UK have stood together to support Ukraine." However, it was just yesterday when Republican Representative Chris Smith and Democratic Senator Jeff Merkley wrote to Prime Minister Sunak "...to express our concern about Jimmy Lai... who has been arbitrarily detained by the Hong Kong government since 2020 for peacefully exercising his freedoms. During your visit to the United States, we urge you to coordinate actions on Hong Kong policy with the Biden Administration, leveraging the extraordinary US - UK alliance on behalf of Jimmy Lai and other political prisoners." Meanwhile, Canadian wildfires were also a hot topic at the White House. White House Correspondent, Owen Jensen reports.
