Neil Cox is Professor of Modern and Contemporary Art at the University of Edinburgh. His interests lie at the intersection of modern artistic practices and theoretical and philosophical discourses. His long-term project focuses on surrealist conceptions of history that will draw upon theories of violence and sovereignty. Neil is Director of the ARTIST ROOMS Research Partnership, which is dedicated to research on a major collection of contemporary art acquired from Anthony d'Offay.
Harry Weeks is a doctoral researcher and teaching fellow in History of Art at the University of Edinburgh. His thesis, entitled 'A Unique Epochal Knot: Negotiations of Community in Contemporary Art', examines the contributions of contemporary art practice to the conceptual negotiation of community initiated by theorists of 'postmodern community' during the 1980s. He has contributed to numerous international academic, artistic and curatorial projects. A chapter on ethics and performance features in the edited collection 'Interactive Contemporary Art: Participation in Practice', published by I.B.Tauris in early 2014.

Café des Artistes is an innovative project of a series of art discussions, established by the ARTIST ROOMS Research Partnership based at the University of Edinburgh and directed by Prof Neil Cox. Each event focuses on a combination of presentations by specialists and audience participation.

ARTIST ROOMS is a major collection of modern and contemporary art owned jointly by Tate and National Galleries of Scotland. It was established in 2008 through the generosity of Anthony d'Offay, and assisted by the National Heritage Memorial Fund, the Art Fund and the Scottish and British Governments.

The ARTIST ROOMS Research Partnership is based at Edinburgh University. It has come together with the collective aim of forging a new kind of initiative to develop high quality and engaging research around the ARTIST ROOMS collection and associated activities.
