I had a Volkswagen, I bought 2 more. Stay up on maintaining it, and they run just fine.

Well guess time to trade in my golf with 350k miles on it

I’m from UK and VW car owner. They are not made for off road use and if they are maintained they do not fall apart and last a long time, very reliable cars.

I bought a 2003 GTI brand new all those years ago. I still drive it daily with almost 200k miles. Best car I ever owned by far. There is nothing cheap about them these days. Scotty must be thinking pre 1999 VW's before they revamped the company. The amount of VW owners in the comments alone are enough to show they are great cars, maybe the best affordable daily you can buy.

odd, I've never heard of VWs falling apart. When you do need to replace something, it is a bit more costly but from my experience they tend to last and last and last with minimal maintenance.

I still drive my VW Golf MK4 with 322000Km. I'm sorry Scotty, but the car is ROCK SOLID!

I have a 2016 VW e-Golf fully loaded. I bought it certified pre- owned over two years ago for $15, 900 out the door price and so far, so good. No complaints here.

If we all listened to Scotty there'd be no cars on the road. I'm on my 5th VW. They all ran beautifully.

The main difference between Americans & Europeans is keeping to a maintenance schedule.
Americans think oil changes are advisory, then wonder why their car breaks down.

To be fair, there isn’t much on a MK2 Golf that can go wrong.

Had Jetta 95, Jetta 2001, Passat 2013, and Jetta 11. Best cars I ever had. Highway ride is awesome. Passat was Rock solid car that only needed oil changes. Driven Subaru and it can't compare to VW on highway. We all have biases against cars. Take Toyota, no imagination, though reliable, it feels like highway fridge only built to be used as instrument of commuting.

Vw offers 6 years or 72, 000 miles warranty now can't go wrong with that! I love my GTI, tuned and makes over 300 HP and it has been very reliable.

I recently bought a Mk 6 Golf. Brand new in 2010 it cost $32, 000 and came fully loaded with gadgets. I bought it for under $8, 000 and to date, it is the best car I have ever owned.

Guys I don't can't understand how you make volkswagens fall apart, you must really missbehave them. It doesn't happen in europe in fact they are among the most reliable. Please Scotty make a series of videos with specific cars and what exactly happened to them.

VW Golf 2 bad?! How dare you, Sir?! How dare you?!

Seriously though, those things are 30-40 years old each, they go where 4X4 Jeep would not dare, durable, cheap to maintain - and eternal. Quite popular in Eastern Europe, and for a good reason.

Sorry Scotty, but your experience with VWs is quite different then my experience or those of many people I know who drive them. Here, north of the border, VWs have a great resale value. I've owned 6 VWs over the last 22 years and have never had one single major issue, and all were traded in with over 160 000kms. Maintenance costs are no more than Toyota, Honda, etc. VW also has a very loyal customer base with a lot of repeat buyers.

2002 VW GTI stick shift: 300, 000 miles and going strong. Biggest problem? Headliner. Other than that it runs better than my sister's 2009 Honda Civic with 50, 000 miles
