Seems like the ballet split is 50% customising the shoes and 50% actual dancing. So hectic😅

LADIES!! Get urselves a thimble, u will never have sore fingers from sewing again. They usually even come in the cheap sewing kits but the metal ones are better and will last forever!!

Pro tip: break you shanks at the highest part of your arch first. Then use dental floss because it’s stronger than thread. I always cut the silk at the tip of the pointe shoe, because it falls off anyway and rosin is more effective on the actual box that way.

I also always sew the elastic on the outside of the back of the shoe. Trust me I ended up wearing clogs all winter, after the elastics rubbed the skin off of my heels doing a relatively heavy relève variation.

Then you can bake them in the oven on a low heat just until they get warm. Once warm you can mold the box to your foot and wear them for the better part of a day, just around the house.

Last step was always to use cotton balls and dull them with calamine lotion. Also, always use a lighter for the frayed edges of the point show ribbons and where you cut off the silk on the box. Make sure to re-glue the sole back in place after you break your shank. That way you won’t get stabbed by the broken shank.

Hope that helps! I was never into darning the tip. It just isn’t worth the time or effort.

I am a seamstress….and I love watching pointe shoe sewing videos…but my fingers ALWAYS HURT after watching these ballerinas sew their pointe shoes without a thimble……

Toe shoes are prepared so differently tha 35 years ago.
We had 1 loop of elastic around the ankle. Coming from the heal of the show. The two long ribbons, from each side, that cross over your foot. The ribbons then wrap around your ankles 2, or was it 3 time. You tie the ribbon at the back of your ankle then tuck it in.
That's all.
I'm kinda jealous of how easy it looks now.😢

Be safe, be strong & remember to Love Yourself, so that you may best love others.
🙏💪💜
