I think this song is called “lone star” because of how abortion is looked down upon in Republican parts of the country like Texas (especially in small town/religious communities). The couple probably lived in a religious town, hence the lyric “if you still believe in the lord above, get on your hands and knees and pray for us”. The singer feels disgusted with himself to the point where he wishes he were dead, and the lyric “nothing feels alright now, the length of my hair or the fit of my clothes”. It’s so amazing how every lyric is so packed with emotion and pain
