Nick Zentner & Jamie MacDonald | October 31, 2024
Jamie MacDonald - Florida Gulf Coast University - discusses the Western Melange Belt east of Everett, Washington.
Okay, I studied the papers, am more familiar with the maps and times, and listened again. Great job, Jamie; you described it all so smoothly that (even) I followed. It's pretty fun to catch on to the ideas! Thank you both very much.

More Jamie MacDonald please!!! He has a great sense of how to make complex ideas into coherent concepts available to us Zentnerds. Thanks Nick and Jamie!!!

It always amazes me how the folks you interview have all those geologic timelines at the tip of their tongue, not only the dates but the names. Jamie yer a good story teller! Thank for teaching us today! Nick you to! Always fascinating questions!

The more I learn about Washington geology the more I realize I STILL have to learn. And I'm not even dreaming of becoming a geologist, just a lover of Washington. We live in such dynamic country up here. I can speak from living in Dayton for 3-1/2 years, I'd love to see something more than dust and wheat fields. These videos are a feast for my weary dusty eyes. LOL - thanks Nick and thanks Jamie - fascinating work.

Love that Jamie give the definition to theses words witch I never knew what was being talked about, thank you Jamie for that.

What a fantastic talk. I've spent many years prospecting in the hills around Sultan. I've often found rocks that just don't belong, I've a wonderful sandstone w/ distinct cross-bedding. Glad to hear about the 3.3Ga zircon from Sultan, too.

This guest was very considerate of everyone listening. They all are but his unique form of consideration was lovely.

Thanks NIck and Jamie - oh the possibilities! I love how these talks with geologists highlight the questions that need to be looked into and hopefully answered. I hope there are some geology students watching these, or even youngsters, and seeing an opportunity to expand our knowledge. And I hope that there are institutions out there willing to fund for this valuable research.

I really like listening to this guy! I wish I had a map of the area he talks about. Thanks so much!

Very interesting stuff! Watching this one again ;)

I am in agreement with the others who have commented about these videos. This is better than hearing Billy Mays (RIP) say, but wait, there's more!
I am impressed by your willingness to tackle the vastness of this subject, as I am able to slowly see how intricate and complicated this geology of our NW continent really is. I mean, I can form ideas of what Karin Sigloch presents and then to hear what others have already found and their ideas of what has taken place. And it is things like this that blasts this to yet to another level to think about. The combinations of possibilities are very intriguing.
My sincere thanks to both you, Nick and Jamie.

Fabulous, absolutely fabulous! Thank you Jamie and Nick.

Blowout Mtn, which lies at the north end of Manastash Ridge has always been of interest to me. The curving fault lines that Jamie connects to the Straight Creek fault makes sense just from my layman's sense of the area. I maintain the PCT in that area so have spent a lot of time pondering the geology. Very interesting session! Thanks!

Thanks Jamie and Nick. What a data dump! Nice to have someone (Jamie) talking about the larger picture of the exotic terranes being formed and moving into place.

One of the most satisfying episodes yet, with Nick asking Jamie very much the same batch of questions that have been intriguing me since I first stumbled across Karin Sigloch's paradigm-breaking paper in 'Nature.'

What a fabulous session! Particularly interesting to me as Jamie was discussing my home area-the WMB around Snoqualmie and Carnation. More new learning and understanding!

Thank you, Nick and Jamie! I'm thrilled we have geologists on the East Coast who are also doing important work in Washington.

😮Man! Do I ever miss when my mind could not only remember all of the details, but keep them in proper order like Jamie. Going to need to rewatch this multiple times to absorb all of his content. Thinking it will be worth it.

I feel like myself as an occasional fumbling chess player, listening to a couple Grandmasters analyzing their recent matches… It all sort of makes sense as they describe their moves and choices, but my brain doesn’t have the structure to keep more than a few moments in place without it all tumbling into a chaotic pile of words and concepts!
I’m impressed with his breadth of knowledge and grasp of the old and current research… I have trouble remembering where I put my reading glasses!

Holy cow what a phenomenal resource!
Jamie is incredible !
Thank you
