What Happens When Orihime Stops Praying in BLEACH... #bleach #anime #shorts #tybw #orihime #ichigo #manga #bankai The first time that Ichigo had to save Orihime in Bleach was after her brother became a Hollow trying to take her life, as Ichigo tries his best to defend her not understanding just why her brother would be doing this. It’s here where we learn that when he was 15, Orihime was born and they had two really awful parents, that apparently thought beatings were the only way to shut a crying baby up. Because of this Orihime was almost like her brother’s daughter as he pretty much raised her, until eventually they had an argument and her brother would go on to pass away, leaving Orihime all alone. Day after day she prayed for her brother in a shrine she built in her house, but as she made friends at school and eventually even met Ichigo, her brother says he could feel himself being replaced in her heart more and more, as eventually she stopped praying for him entirely, something that he says contributed to why he became a hollow at all. As Ichigo fights against this thing, repeatedly it tries to convince Orihime to come with him to the other world, since it’s always been the two of them against the world and he doesn’t want to be apart anymore, but when Orihime says that brother she loved would NEVER do something like this, the hollow SNAPS, blaming Orihime for how things turned out and screaming that it’ll kill her, as Ichigo hops back into the room taking the hollow on saying even a monster should never say something like that to his sister, as eventually Orihime takes an attack from her brother allowing him to really realize how awful what he’s doing is, as he uses Ichigo’s sword to break his own mask off and eventually passes on, crumbling away as Rukia wipes Orihime’s memories and Ichigo becomes Orihime’s new protector.

She was his entire world, as you said, he essentially raised her. So the feeling of being replaced was just too much for him to take. He felt responsible for her which is partially why he couldnt move on in the first place. I can understand his motivations but not condone his actions. They turned selfish and destructive in the end, but thats pretty much what being a hollow is. The pain and sadness they feel becomes fuel for anger and violence.

I think a lot of the time (at least in western society) we see death as a time of “enlightenment” where we pass over and become happy and leave our negative feelings behind. So it’s interesting to see in anime sometimes where you become this embodiment of negativity and loneliness and can’t let go of things in the living realm

If I remember right; I think Ichigo managed to get through to him on a level of both being the big brother to siblings they'd do anything to keep safe and happy. I think he allowed himself to be slayed by Ichigo's zanpakuto at the end, realizing he was losing himself to the animal he'd been forced to become.

This is, I think, the first part of the Substitute Shinigami Arc that's meant to hook you. That story was so good and it's moments like that and the fight with Grand Fisher later that carry that first arc through its more quiet moments until the series really starts to ramp up and come into its own in Soul Society.

The rest if people don’t know:
Orihime’s brother tries to kill her, but Ichigo cuts his hand off and tells him that even a monster doesn’t have the right to say they’ll kill their siblings, the ones they’re meant to protect. (I can’t really remember exactly what happens after, it’s been a while since I read volume 1 but her brother essentially does what’s best and gets taken to the Soul Society (basically Heaven/the afterlife for Wholes)

I think what most people here seem to forget is that her Brother really does love hear and that the Hollow version isn’t the “actual” version of him.

A soul usually just needs to live in the real world for about a Month to turn into a hollow so her Brother who stayed like I don’t know a few years as a human just due to his sheer amount for Positiv Emotions he had for Orihime it’s just that a soul in the real world can’t escape hollowfication so her Brother eventually becomes more and more fueled with Negativ emotions until what we see now.

Also the only reason he stayed there was to watch over her. It was just unfortunate circumstances that it happened like it did.

If you think about what makes a Hollow and that gillians evolve by keeping their individuality while consuming others, it makes Ulquiorra's case alot more depressing. In that he probably was born without the ability to feel these intense emotions and it was at his ultimate (Hollow) end that he finally felt something and Orihime saw that he did because due to Ichigo and her brother, she can see the humanity inside them.

Hollow is in parenthesis because of the whole Hell situation and Ulquiorra was definitely powerful.

A little sad, that normal hollows became later one only mindless beast, who only did some sounds, but didnt showed any power or ability to speak again (aside of the point, that normal hollows didnt had much screentime later on).
