Seiko Presage Cocktail Time Review - Open Heart Blue Moon - R.I.P. Dad Watch - SSA405J1

As an avid "watch guy", my one rule for watches is that each timepiece needs to mark a specific moment in time or pay tribute to a specific person in my life, and for my dear late father, I've chosen the Seiko Presage SSA405J1, colloquially named the Seiko Cocktail Time Blue Moon with an Open Heart and in this video, I'd love to unbox, review, and share this Open Heart Blue Moon with you.

I love mechanical watches; it's mind-boggling to me how these marvels of engineering and design and fit on our wrists, but what I love more about watches in general, are the stories that accompany them, and I'd love to hear yours in the comments.

There is, by the way, a brand new 2021 Seiko Presage Cocktail Time Open Heart called the Acapulco Blue that's very similar to this Blue Moon, and it bears the model number SSA439J1 (as opposed to this one, SSA405J1), where the dial is a lighter more aqua blue, but carries the same geocentric circular pattern, and, instead of a leather strap, comes with a matching steel bracelet; really gorgeous too.

If 40.5mm is too big for you, This is one of the fewer Cocktail Times by Seiko that also comes in an identical 34mm variant for women or those looking for a smaller dial, and it bears the model number Seiko SSA785J1.

Regardless, you really can't go wrong with any Seiko Presage, Cocktail Time collection or not. It's unanimous in the watch-collecting world, in that no watch-collector can deny that when it comes to dial-finishing bang-for-buck, no one can touch Seiko. Their dials consistently rival watches at 10X their pricepoints in terms of detail, craftsmanship, and materials.

This won't be my daily watch; it's more of a dress watch, but it'll still proudly sit in my EDC (everyday carry watch) collection. Are you into watches? I'd love to know a watch you own that means something important to you!

Thank you for sharing. I lost my dad to Covid early June, one week later my daughter was born. To comemorate life this way, remembering moments and gone people looking a watch, this is so me right now. My dad left an vintage Omega Seamaster TV with day complication, it's not working, and I'll leave it that way, so I can always remember the way he also did not fix it, as a part of my life is not working properly when he left this world so soon. I was not much a watch guy, now I'm into it, just to remember time is precious, and I should keep track on it.

To me, the open heart represents my illness and my openness about it - the entire dial is smooth, but there is that one hole that really shows what it truly is, no hiding or pretending.

My grandfather taught me what a watch always had Seiko and citizen, so I had all of his 70-90s seikos I said that to say this....I bought his house....and I ended up meeting the love of my life and having to let it go, because I'm staying in Italy now, so the profit I got on his house I bought a speedy, not a watch I can normally afford but I put it on my wrist as a tribute my brother, gave me an skx that he served in (I'm AF) but he I just got his skx back from servicing...finally I bought my grandfather a beautiful white and blue citizen and had it engraved..."hold on to this for me" ...he passed away....but I videotaped me giving it to him and the moments of the unboxing that I will cherish forever line agree about buying watches for someone that you simply

A watch is often given to commemorate important events in a person's life. It's right to give yourself a watch to remember and honor someone who filled time with valued moments. I have only a few automatic watches, and I love the idea of an automatic watch that does not display day and date. If you let the watch sit for a couple days, you need to reset 3 different things. I was leaning toward solar-powered because of that particular inconvenience. At least with this model, you adjust the time, give the crown a few turns, and you're on your way.
