The Real Reason for Red Bull’s Disaster | Bahrain GP

For half of that race, I was stunned that the reliability of these new cars was so good. Then that was ended when Gasly, Verstappen and Perez all ground to a halt.

Some in more dramatic fashion than others.

And everyone was understandably worried about the reliability of these Honda (sorry, Red Bull) power units. Was this all linked? Or were these separate issues?

You guessed it, Scarbs is back.

So for the Red Bull teams, there were four issues. Gasly’s fire, Max’s Steering, Max’s Engine and Checo’s engine.

And on the surface of it, the all looked linked. But they’re not.

The real problem was that Honda's engine manual was in Japanese so only Yuki understood it and finished the race. Everything else are conspiracy theories.

According to ‘the race’ RB didn’t do any low fuel runs in practice, so I wonder if this left them exposed somewhat at the end of the race when the engines are running on very low fuel

This channel is an absolute joy. A few guys talking technical F1 stuff. Is this much fun still allowed? Don't change anything.

Wow my car has something in common with an F1 car now, it also runs badly on E10.

I just want some fair battles between ferrari, redbull and mercedes no crashes and no sudden DNF's

retirements wouldn't be so bad if they didn't happen on the literal last laps of the race, a weekend to really forget for red bull

Something I haven't seen mentioned yet is that on both the Red Bulls just prior to the failure the light's on the rear of the car started blinking asymmetrically, the right rear wing light started to stay on longer or not be in sync with the others.
That to me is very interesting because the lights are on when the battery is charging, and when I saw it happen on Perez's car I though "oh, here we go again" and sure enough at the start of the next lap he spun. If that was a fuel pump issue then why were the light's going weird?
I suspect there is more than meets the eye to this failure.

Seems very uncharacteristic for both racers to finish so poorly

The RB’s rear lights were going wonky for a couple laps before the total failure. I watched the onboards and Carlos even noticed it going wonky on Max’s car.

I'm voting for vapor lock, because ethanol based fuel interacting with fuel system components should be a solved issue by now. We've used ethanol for decades.

For me interesting was seeing the lights at the back of both red bull cars blinking weirdly a lap or two before the failure

This could suggest an electronic issue (not enough power, power delivery being cut) which links it much closer to Gasly's issue

Notice that on both Max's and Perez cars it was the left rear light that stopped blinking, which of course may be a coincidence but I dont remember this to happen ever before

Hope red bull fixes them quick so we can have a nice Charles vs Max battle throughout the season

This, theoretically, could strike every team. RB might do well to take preventive measures, but it could affect everyone.

You guys are Hands Down the best Formula 1 info Channel for me. Tons of Knowledge broken down so anyone can grasp what you are talking about.

You have to surpass 15% ethanol for the mixture to become slightly more corrosive than standard gasoline on certain plastics. Also ethanol is not that volatile. It's actually far less volatile than gasoline (because ethanol boiling point is 70 degrees higher than gasoline). That's why on old carburated cars converted to ethanol, starting was a issue (often the cars used gasoline just for starting), because the fuel vas not volatile enough for the carburetors to work correctly.

Wasnt McLaren commenting on the new fuel pumps being unable to get all of the fuel out of the tanks when running low?
Or was it Ferrari? I'm not sure anymore.
So that could also be a hint of that 'low running fuel' vapor thing possible issue.

1:48 Dropping a car from 400-500 millimeters would indeed damage it for sure, I think you meant 40-50?

I loved the race broadcasters "Gasly appears to have overheated." As there is a fire coming out of the back of his car!

Not buying the vapour lock or the fuel pump as the entire field have the exact same. We're missing something...
