The Shure picks up more of the high end Vox 'sparkle' whereas the Royer has a lot more mids and low end. However, they are both great mics. It just depends on what type of music you are playing. Would be interesting to see this test on the Twin Reverb!

There is a reason the SM58 is in most rock videos from 1970 to 2010.
I used one at work for 20 years.

Just turn up your monitors or your headphones and the Royer is much better; the highs are lovely and round without losing definition. The highs on the SM58 are brittle when you crank the volume, but so sound great at lower volume. Royer any day of the week.

Both are good mics, the SM58 more treble with bass cut, (a good live vocal mic) the Royer 121 more a full range mic, captures the warmth of the speaker, but also defined but had to turn up my volume a bit to appreciate that... overall a warmer sound. I did not prefer both mics together, kinda killed the attack.

Not a big difference, but if you take care you car hear it.
Personaly, I prefer the Royer. Very soft and round sound, beautiful

Hi !
how do you record all your pedals test ? What gear do you use (Mic model, mix table, camera, audio sound card, software for recording, etc.) ? Many thanks in advance. And congrats for all great demos you make ! :)

Am I alone in not being able to distinguish between the two? Yet the Royer costs several hundreds more than the Shure, evidently. Hmm.
