Russell Brand's articulation of his ideas has really evolved, it's elevating him so much and I'm grateful for that. He needs to be heard more

Holy Moly. I liked that perspective from Russell.
Reminds me of the adage, "If you don't stand for something, you fall for everything. "

My perspective on the Ten Commandments is, when you break one it hurts you more than anyone else. They are rules for protecting ourselves. That's how much God loves us..

They were not originally called The Ten Commandments, they were called aséret ha-dibrot or literally translated as "the ten words", "the ten sayings", or "the ten matters".
So Russell is right on point
They are not laws but rather a moral scaffolding as well as a description of living a righteous life, within the eyes of God.
It even says later in the Scriptures, if you fall, to get back up again, acknowledging the struggle as flesh bound souls, to actually live up to that structure.
People are so quick to dismiss the wisdom in Scripture. I was one of those people for a long time. I am beginning to understand now though.

Bill trying to stray people from the light. Russell bringing them back

“Most have nothing to do with morality or ethics…”
5 - Honor your father and mother.
6 - Don’t murder.
7 - Don’t commit adultery.
8 - Don’t steal.
9 - Don’t lie.
10 - Don’t covet.

I am a Christian, but I appreciate Russell’s respectful take on the material.

I see it like a dad telling his children “you shall have no father but me” there are many false fathers out there, but only I created you, and love you. Don’t abandon me for a fake father.

Bill sees them as a child would. Russell sees them as a parent .

If someone gives you an order to do something, or to refrain from doing something, you would probably want to know by what authority he is giving the order. The First Commandment gives that authority. The Second Commandment makes it clear that He is the only authority. The Third Commandment makes it clear that His authority is to be revered and respected. Without those first three commandments, there is no reason to follow the remaining commandments should it become inconvenient to do so.
