The Angel face you see is the Haserot, named “The Angel of Death Victorious". The stoic angel is seated on the marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family. Holding an extinguished torch upside-down, it represents a symbol of life extinguished. Wings are outstretched and the gaze is straight ahead.

I live in Hazel Green. Three of her other husbands are buried out here on her old land. You can still go see the graves.

Great story. Can’t help think of a girl I grew up with who had been widowed 3 times by the time she was in her early 40’s, 2 from aggressive cancers and one a heart attack “very overweight”. Such a sweet girl, but all the single guys in the small town were scared to date her after that, she was referred to as “The Black Widow”. What a series of tragedies for such a sweet girl, life is tough some times.

I have spent many hours at Maple Hill, but have spent most of my time in the “newer” part near the back closer to Dead Children’s Playground and have found it very peaceful; however, when I venture to the older part I get such an overpowering uneasy, almost sinister feeling. I’m not prone to putting much stock in such things, but I cannot shake the feeling.

On another note: thanks for this story. Very well done.
