as a martial arts practitioner, all i know about the philtrum is its one of the human body's weak spots, one moderate hit here (personally i prefer with something blunt, say a book or a plastic bottle) and even a 7ft bodybuilder will curl in pain. push your palm up your bully's philtrum really hard (visualize a very hard high-5 punch) and he'll 2nd-guess about bothering you again. even with an inaccurate strike, the other guy will get a broken nose.
