I think bc of how developed football/soccer is, Messi is for sure a better goat than Jordan. There’s only 1 NBA in basketball, football has like 5 NBAs, global prowess, World Cup, UCL, Copa America/Euros, and more. It’s so competitive across multiple national aspects. Messi is the best of all time: ACROSS THE WORLD, and in HISTORY. Jordan is the best but from a crop mainly picked in the USA, with not as much national competition to weed out. Jordan is like the Pele of basketball. Later on once basketball becomes MORE global and the competition becomes to the level football is now, then a basketball Messi will emerge. Messi had to beat out the globe playing competitive since he was a teenager being scouted by Barca and playing youth academy up to first team status. The ladder to climb in football is insanely huge and difficult. He truly is THE greatest of his sport, OF ALL TIME, ACROSS THE GLOBE

It's Michael Jordan. Don't care what others say. No athlete ever in the history of any sports league has had as much impact as Michael Jordan has. Michael jordans shoe brand in itself is bigger than most athletes are. Jordan won 3 championships in a row retired, played baseball and returned and immediately won 3 championships again. Jordan was also the first athlete to get his own movie in space jam which was extremely successful. To top it off during jordans time the entire media was affected by him. Like Mike was created as a movie paying homage to jordans greatness and how everyone wanted be like Jordan. I believe I can fly was made for space jam soundtrack and is an iconic song despite R Kelly being a POS scum of a person.

The entire world and media flocked to jordan and jordan took being an athlete to superstardom levels that no other athlete ever has. Nike wasnt even a big company before, adidas, reebok and converse were the major shoe companies. Jordan wanted a contract with converse but he didnt get that and he signed with nike. Now Nike is the biggest sneaker company on the planet and all 3 of the others are small in comparison. Jordan literally built multi billion dollar businesses from his name alone. No other athlete can say that.
