Easiest Way to Install and Setup TrueNAS Scale for Home Users - Create Pools, Add Data Sets, Add Users, Permissions and Windows Shares.

I accidentally left out how to boot off of a USB drive or thumb drive, but it's different for every motherboard manufacturer. So you'll have to look that up what your boot function key is for your motherboard. HP is f9. I believe Dell is f10. You need to press the function key during bootup then choose the USB drive that you're installing trueNas from.

You can also install and run trueNas on a USB drive. It's not recommended but I will put a quality USB drive in the comments if you need to do that.

The video is a bit fuzzy at 2k, the voice a bit hard to hear clearly but you nailed it. Easy to understand, explained clearly, you show all the steps, This is the best video I've found that shows how to use TrueNas for new users after an install and pool creation. I usually get stuck on interfaces more than understanding the concept and this is my first shot at NAS. GREAT JOB. Thanks!

After searching for information on how to actually read and write to my TrueNAS and finding lots of very high tech explanations for businesses, I finally came across your video, which as a single home user was just perfect. May thanks Shame about the audio, maybe you could re record a voice overlay?

Thanks for doing the video, with 24.10 electric eel released, there’s a number of changes that makes setup easier. Lots of positive changes.

Very useful, but the audio is poor, It would be better with something like dji mini mic or similar ❤. Thanks anyway

Question. Can I play and watch my videos using my nas server and just truenas scale as the OS? Say I want my nas server to be a local pc too. I want to use the hdmi port and connect it to my tv to watch my videos as a standalone.

You don't need in windows to logout and login again to change network share access with different users, in the same session open a cmd console and just type : net use /delete to delete established network shares and that's all.

I can read filed on the NAS but cannot delete or make any new files.

Instead of "writing" an .iso to a USB drive, I simply "dropped" the .iso onto my Ventoy USB drive!
Much quicker, and the drive has .iso files for many other operating systems!

Nice, detail video... I take it one would need to know the passwords of all home users. What if a user changes his/her password?
