Ok, I am going to explain what I believe is true to all those confused comments, but I wish people would maintain an open mind. I was studying the biggest sins in Islam and their punishments last year all of them had mentions in Quran and Hadith, and one of them was apostasy, but this one had a mention in Hadith only which got me wondering so I started researching the Hadith that says "whomever changes his Religion shall be killed", which btw doesn't go along the actions of the prophet when people actually changed their faith in his time. Through my research I found a lot of holes that can discredit the Hadith and am going to list them now. Firstly the Hadith was out of context, we don't know what he said before and after that sentence and for your information there were a lot of spies in the era of the prophet who pretended to be Muslims only to know what is the next move and after they have achieved their goal they would just go back to their old religion so for all what we know he might have been talking about them before hand. Secondly, the first guy who told us about this Hadith was according my source an eight year old when the prophet said it. And last but not least, after the death of the prophet a lot of people started making up hadiths that serve their purposes. My research covered much more but I am a bit Rusty at the moment. You can do your own research too.

This is great, and if this were the common interpretation of the Koran (or the Hadith), then I would say this is great! But it's not. Most Islamic scholars assert the rules of Sharia are clear, and apostasy is punishable by death. The evidence of position is text and history. It seems that these lectures are intended for a western audience to quell the fears of encroaching Islam. Apostasy is listed in Sahih-Al-Bukhari as one of 3 capital offenses, along with adultery & murder.

Faith cannot be truthful if it's contrived. It's because Man will never be sure of his religion that when he believes, something great happens. That's the beauty behind the alliance between Man and God: Man is free. Man is free to do what he wants, believe other idols, believe he is God, yet he knowingly devouts himself to a greater entitity, and obeys it - freely. That's the beauty of faith.

Best explanation I've come across so far. May Allaah reward and bless you brother and keep the ummah guided and united, and for those disbelievers who choose to leave islam, may Allaah reveal to them that their freewill of the profitless consequences and that they will face and truly in their heart they will never be completely whole neither will have true meaning, love or protection without the GPS of Allaah. We should never disown our families or others, as in many cultures and individuals do, rightly said, the Quran takes precedence over all and the haadith must harmonize with the Qur'an in order for it to be appropriately valid and materialized with His order and approval, that we should neither penalize or punish them. Only time Prophet Muhammad (saws) did disown or use punishment under the command of Allaah in this fashion was because the person(s) who left Islam then chose to cause heinous and widespread corruption in the lands which could have endangered and harmed many others in these communities and to the extent of the nation. In Islam, we must always show faith, mercy, leadership, kindness, equality, respect, tolerance, intelligeable knowledge in our speech and demonstrations, beneficial discipline, courage, support, politeness and above all love and rationality. The Prophet Muhammad (saws) was the most forgiving, patient and knowledgeable of advisors mankind subhanallaah, we should take all the leaves out of the Book. When people disown or punish people (without them causing corruption in the land), especially when it's your own kindred, because they chose in their own freewill to leave islam, estagfhAllaah, that is borderline siding with iblees as he only wants to cause hatred, separation and malice which only leads to sadness, loneliness, entrapment and disunity for the apostate and the family. As much as it is very saddening and difficuilt if anyone chooses to leave Islam because they decided to choose this world over Jannah and to be lost over being guided. We should all be stronger and wiser than this, responding to their questions or doubts comprehensively with the assistance of Quran and haaith, show the mercy of Allaah's teachings and demonstrate righteously according to the Noble Quran, come to common terms with them and help the best you possibly can. Hate never solved anything, it only worsens the situation, whereas with love and understanding, which the Prophet displayed to all of mankind, look at how beautiful and successful it was and still remains to be today with those following the jurisprudence and commandments of Allaah properly. Inshaallaah may we all be better as Muslims and be strong during yawm al qiyamah, the commitment and sacrifices will all pay off yarub. And Allaah Knows Best.

It was narrated from 'Ikrimah:
"Some people apostatized after accepting Islam, and 'Ali burned them with fire. Ibn 'Abbas said: 'If it had been me, I would not have burned them; the Messenger of Allah [SAW] said: 'No one should be punished with the punishment of Allah.' If it had been me, I would have killed them; the Messenger of Allah [SAW] said: 'Whoever changes his religion, kill him.'"

1. You should address Quran 9:5 & 9:29. It contradicts your verse about NO compulsion in Islam.
2. Also discuss a topic of punishment for Muslims girls not allowed dating or marrying a Non-Muslim vs a Muslim man marrying a Christian or a jew but not a Hindu

"I swear to you by Allah! You know that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said: 'The blood of a Muslim man is not lawful, except for one of three (cases):Illegitimate sexual relations after Ihsan (having been married), or apostasy after Islam, or taking a life without right, for which he is killed.' By Allah! I have never committed illegitimate sexual relations, not during Jahiliyyah nor during Islam, and I have not committed apostasy since I gave my pledge to the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w), and I have not taken a life that Allah had made unlawful. So for what do you fight me?"' Jami at tirmidhi 2158 Grade sahih.

This Apostasy law is NOT in the Quran & it was NEVER carried out by the prophetﷺ. This law is in the hadith and widely challenged. Historically, this law was specifically for Muslims who joined the oppressor and opposing forces against Islam in order to explain to them that, in this case, they may be killed when met on the battlefield.

Prophet pbuh said, Adhere to my Sunnah and that of the Khulfa ul Rashideen,
Abu Bakar R.A started rida wars against apostates, which is why it's part of the Islamic Shariah!
(Khulfa ul Rashideen means the Khalifa rightly guided by Allah)
