For Kelsey Grammer, Frasier is more than just his most famous role

For many of his fans, Kelsey Grammer is inseparable from his character Dr. Frasier Crane, who first appeared on “Cheers” and later got his own spin-off, “Frasier.” Last year, the actor reprised the role in a reboot of “Frasier” that’s now in its second season. But Kelsey’s connection to his most famous character runs deeper than simple nostalgia. He opens up about how the cast of “Frasier” became his family after he suffered several personal tragedies, why he didn’t always feel welcomed on “Cheers,” and how he ended up voicing Sideshow Bob on “The Simpsons.”

I like what I've seen of the new (2023) FRASIER, but I like Kelsey Grammer even more. It's not just that we share the same birthday (February 21, 1956), nor that he lives at least part of the time in my home state, New York, but that he's made so many people happy with his work. If his FRASIER reboot succeeds for a number of years and if it provides something so worthhwhile and fulfilling for Kelsey, then I say America should be happy not just for ourselves to be entertained but also happy for Kelsey to be doing something more with a character he loves so much (as we also do).
