Understanding Creep Aggro | Dota 2 Guide

So many players would gain MMR if they understood Creep Aggro. Unfortunately, there are a lot of confusing interactions (most players misunderstand how de-aggroing works). If you learn how to fundamentally apply these concepts correctly, you can easily win your lanes and climb.

Listen to this man. Learning the bare minimum of this integral mechanic helped me reach past 5k. It's that important.

I came from League, and your videos are really helping me! And yes, I support a more advanced video even though I am not advanced at all

9:50 -- this is so important for support players. As a position 1 main, when my supports are trying to harrass and absolutely fuck my wave equilibrium causing me to lose 1-3 last hits, this annoys me so much. 1-3 last hits may not seem that big of a deal, but if they do this every time a new wave spawns, that adds up very quickly. Although supports do not actually utilize creep aggro to manipulate wave position, it's still important to understand so you are not accidentally griefing your cores. Great vid as always Zach! <3

Edit: Also, for those rare core players that actually watch Zach's vids, I can't stress enough how important this skill is to increase your CS. You can practice this skill in the Training Polygon along with your raw last hitting skill. It's admittedly one of the more clunky mechanics to practice IMO. However once you get it down and are able to quickly and smoothly creep aggro in lane against your lane enemy, if you want to take it to the next level, I would recommend practicing drawing creep aggro from any enemy hero on the map (heroes not in your lane that are showing on map). This just helps take this skill a little further and ensures that you have control of your wave at all times, even if your lane heroes are missing and you think they are hiding in trees about to gank you. You can still pull your wave back under tower to safety (especially helpful when landing against a pudge).

Edit2: One tip that really helped me with this skill: learn to use middle mouse camera drag, instead of edge panning the camera. Helps for super quick and accurate camera control which can be necessary for quickly attack commanding an enemy hero and immediately running back towards your ranged creep.

As always thanks for the great vid. Very interested in this topic. Would be nice to have some replay analysis showing some practical application of these concepts as it is pretty confusing, and maybe a staged scenario showing best case scenario of how you can reset lane equilibrium applying this info.

I just got back into Dota after like 8yrs and your videos helped a ton! I've also been watching your recent vods and would rlly appreciate if you could comment on your thought process when buying items
There's obviously lots of new items for me and probably a lot of changes to the old ones that I haven't even realised yet so I'm rlly struggling with buying the right thing at the right time

Thank you, man, for your work. It helps a lot. Even your old videos are 'game-changing.' Where were you in 2013 when I could play a lot of Dota? :D
P.S. Please make a video with advanced techniques and practical examples.

wow! after over 2 decades of playing DotA I actually noticed these things unconsciously. I never actually looked at the distances like you did with the console, but I just automatically know. I think Luna spamming helped as her range an be rough to master and you are constantly just trying to get close enough. It's hard to kite melee heroes with Luna but it can be done for me it's an unconscious skill. I will be running and turning around attacking real quick and just start going quick enough to avoid a strike.

8:12 im not 100% sure, but i think if you attack the creep, you also reaggro all the creeps nearby that were following you, if you let them hit you, only the creeps that hit you will keep the aggro to you
