Throughout history, technology has been at the forefront of our development, changing the way we live and protect citizens. The nation's skies need to be secure to achieve this, which is why the US military has unveiled plans to implement a project that has been kept secret for years. This project stretches the boundaries of aeronautical engineering and goes beyond what we ever imagined.

Calling the SR-71 a fighter is totally inaccurate.

What they don't say is the SR-71 was designed and built without the aid of computers. It was designed and built with Protractors, Slide Rules and Coffee. Today's engineers can't hold a candle to these guys.

The SR-71 is not a fighter, it is a reconnaissance platform. As the name implies (Strategic Reconnaissance). Its only defense is its altitude and speed capabilities.

As my uncle who was Air Force Intelligence for over 25 years and then with security for Los Alamos and Sandia Labs told me, "If they are showing you an aircraft, it is because they have something better available and something better than that in development."

The SR71 and SR72 are not fighter aircrafts. They are reconnaissance aircrafts. They are fast but not very maneuverable as true fighters such as the F22, F35, F15, F16, and F18. They are not made for dog fights.

For 20+ years I worked in TV news as a reporter and producer. In that time, I learned that governments disclose only 25 - 30% of what they are actually doing.

while the SR 71 was built by engineers in their time, the SR 72 is built by the bloggers of our time..

Whoever wrote this exaggerated, hyper-positive copy for this aircraft should get an academy award!

Much yammering redundancy in an epic clash of synonyms and a challenge to the very art of the paradigm-shift in Thesaurus use. Amazing re-use of the same thought over and over again.

I found it hard to follow this story....filled with a torrent of grandiose and repetitious words, with some substance sprinkled in. I think they stretch out the story to make room for maximum number of ads that they get paid for.

I was fortunate enough to see the last flight of the SR71 now on static display on Lacland AFB while standing on top of a C5 Gallaxy on the runway of Kelley AFB. She had a low speed fly by, a high speed, then she landed on Kelley for the last time before being taken to static display.

The SR-71 is also said to be the last aircraft designed exclusively with the use of a sliderule.

The problem with laser weapons is that the air, the atmosphere is a huge hindrance. It distort and weakens the beam and there's not much you can do about that, I don't care how technologically advanced you are. The literal air molecules (nitrogen, oxygen, water, bugs, whatever) gets in the way and you just have to power through it. The only way to do that is with more power. Thus, lasers would be ideal at extremely high altitudes, or space. But closer to the ground, they're only viable in specific situations, in certain circumstances, in certain weather configurations (if it's raining, forget about it).

I was fortunate enough to work on a predecessor to this evolved technology: the F23 Black Widow II & Gray Ghost (1991). This project used similar stealth designs, engine masquerading, and secret surface coatings.

In 1983, I saw the SR-71 take off from Osan Air Force Base, Republic of Korea. That was the first sonic boom (they circled Osan so they could make the sonic boom there before it got over North Korea) I heard since I was a kid in 1963 and lived near Vandenburg AFB.

SR 71 blackbird was not a fighter. It was a reconnaissance aircraft only now there was rumor of the A12. And it was rumored to carry missiles, slightly smaller than the SR 71 but of the same air frame.

It would appear the US is leading the world in the production of CGI aircraft.
I am sure we have some amazing creations flying in the real world too.
There was an interceptor version of the SR-71, and while we learned a lot about firing missiles at extreme speed there just wasn't anything fast enough to intercept with the SR-71.
At 2 miles per second (7500 mph) we may have to ask what battlefield we would use this aircraft on. As a recon aircraft, it would be wonderful. It may also be great in the Space Force.

As a retired USAF enlisted stationed at Edwards AFB, and Plant 42 in California on the B-2 Bomber for 7 years and then going to Beale AFB assigned to the 99thRS working on the U-2S Dragon Lady, I would watch this video and take the information in with a grain of salt.

I told my kids, never let anyone tell you anything is impossible. The difference between the possible and impossible is a dream, and the difference between that dream and reality is work. Remember nothing was invented, not one thing, was ever invented by anyone who thought it was impossible.
